Illini Softball 2026
Opening game today - 10 am vs. Lamar in Baton Rouge. Then 12:30 pm vs. Nevada. Lamar was 29-27 last year and Nevada was 41-14 vs. a not so tough schedule. Did play Stanford close 2 games but lost both.
For anyone that may care, Illinois State opened 2-0 yesterday with victories over Bethune-Cookman and South Florida - in Tampa. They play Kansas and Florida later today.

Perry should have been gone. I don't know why Whitman is prolonging this situation. Perry and Tamas are the 2 head coaches on campus that need to be gone ASAP.

0-5 start w/2 losses via mercy rule is not a good start and makes me wonder if Whitman needs to consider a change in leadership. Only one NCAA appearance since 2019.
Illinois opens the weekend with a 4-1 over Akron. Finally start the weekend off right.
Illinois only had 1 error, no unearned runs and Abby Sabalaskey gave up 1 run in the win. Both shocking to me. Pleasantly surprised. The Illinois D hasn't been great and I thought Sabalaskey would really struggle and find a spot on the pine. That hasn't happened and so far she's one of the bright spots.

Softball team scores 15 runs !!! and loses to Iowa 21-15.. Record now 8-16.
