Illini Tennis

Illini moved up in ITA rankings from unranked to number 6.

I don't understand how they weren't ranked, unless it was just because they hadn't played enough. They have usually been a top-20 team and they were returning a top-4 that can complete with just about anyone and some better depth than last year

Illini fans knew how much talent this team has, but the record last year is what led to them not being ranked to begin this season. They were 5-6 last season with losses to UCF, Florida, North Carolina, Baylor, Duke and Ole Miss.

Amazing start to this season, but they have another huge test this weekend against Ohio State. Would be great to keep the momentum going and knock off the Buckeyes.

tOSU scares me. Beat em and I'll jump on the B10 title bandwagon.
This is the year to do it. Illinois has a very talented and experienced line-up. I just wish our doubles were better. It's always hard to win four out of six singles matches against a top team. One of the things that helped those Craig Tiley teams was that they rarely lost the doubles point.

At least the one victory was vs. McNally. He spent most of his match vs. Kova whining.. Again.

I didn't get to watch any of the match. Just kept an eye on the live scoring. What was he whining about? They needed the doubles point today. I didn't like the AB vs. Kingsley matchup at all. Would have much preferred AB vs. McNally and Kova vs. Kingsley. Also, wanted to see a better effort from Heck, but that kid Tracy is a hell of a player. Would have liked for them to play the rest of the matches out, I think it would have ended in a more respectable 4-3.

Typical McNally -whining about line calls Watch any of his matches and you'll catch him trying to call good balls as out. Then when he is reversed he pitches a missy fit. FWIW you can watch home matches on Fighting Illini.com. Student aannouncers. Rhino, it looks like the girls are finishing all matches even after the thing has been decided. NW 6-1 over Illinois.

I've been following the Illinois women's tennis team for a long time, and I can't remember them ever beating Northwestern

I really hope they can field a top team next year. They are supposed to be hosting the NCAA tournament again, and it would be a huge letdown to not make the field for the second time in a row when hosting

We lose a lot with Kova, Clark, Khlif and Budic. Need Brown to find his game.

I think they are all in their 5th year and were allowed back this year only because of covid . Khlif did redshirt last year so perhaps he could get another year?

I know that for some winter sports like basketball this is a free year, eligibility-wise. Is that true for Spring sports, too?

I know spring sports got a free year of eligibility from last year. I'm not sure if they get another or not.

Another victory today over Nebraska. Dancer was suspended by the NCAA and sat this one out. Anyone know why?
