Illini Volleyball 2026

Josh is not concerned about women’s volleyball, obviously. Very little financial support and the facilities are not good compared to places like Lincoln and West Lafayette. It seems that Josh is concentrating his efforts to the big money sports, both basketball programs and football.
And a little for T&F and Golf, maybe Tennis? Those facilities are already very good.

I think VB would take a boatload of money to resurrect and compete at a Top 20 or even Top 30 level. The money needed for VB could suck a lot of other program dry.

Only so much money in the pie and VB is not on the scale to get any of it.

There was a time I supported Tamas. For me, that time has passed. Serve receive issues continue and have been a predictable problem for years. The defense is consistently out of position. The connection between hitters and setters is inconsistent. The talent exists, but the coaches have not been able to develop offensive and defensive systems capable of competing at the D1 level. Blaming our performances to this point on “it’s early” is not satisfactory. Tennessee and Cincinnati somehow were able to look cohesive, even though they have had the same amount of practice time as Illinois. Slow starts and late season breakdowns define Illinois. These are all coaching problems. Our coaches need to do better or be replaced.

Lots of talk about a money problem. That doesn't explain losses to programs like Bradley and South Dakota State over the last two years.
You don’t directly buy wins. Ask Kentucky basketball. But not having money does explain those losses.

The money problem is that we aren’t dedicated to spending on facilities or a better coach. Without those things, we don’t get the better players.

With a coach that just doesn’t have it, and decent but not great recruiting, we are gonna hit under our weight class. When we underperform, we lose to other bad teams.
