Just watched the press conferences. You can't listen to coach and the players talk and not be impressed and excited for this team. My high school girls are playing on the 5th but I've already got my IU tix. All the longtime MBB fans I talk to are stoked about this WBB team and this season. Can't wait to see the program continue to grow and make CU a WBB town!

And, yeah, we need more concessions and merch kiosks open. I didn't even get a pretzel today the lines were so long! Pretty sure the guy in front of me missed the entire 3rd Q - hope those fries were good!

Unless they don't put fans on the opposite side that doesn't seem possible but 🤷‍♂️
I would have guessed 5-6k. On TV didn’t look like anyone in the upper areas (why would there be with the crowd size) and didn’t appear to be full in some of the areas in lower that I could see. Not bad on NY day with no students. Hopefully this result builds even more interest.

Great to hear from the coach and the ladies. If you don't take anything else away from that it is truly the teamwork and wanting to make your teammates better. Thank you Coach and ladies,, you are Great representatives of the University!

Post game interviews. Players and coach. IMPRESSIVE!
Yes, very much so. They’re well spoken, sincere, and professional sounding…all 3.

I’m not sure why the media kept asking about the crowd like it was some raucous sell-out? I mean it DID look/sound like a lot more than it actually was.

Did it seem louder than the Bethune game? With 2.5-3 times as many people…lol…it kinda did…let’s hope that doesn’t continue on the Men’s side….(which it won’t of course)

…anyway…compared to the paltry crowds we’ve seen at girls games for SO LONG it is definitely a step in the right direction. BUT…like Shauna politely interjected…it’s supposed to be like that. Duh.

She of course, recognizes it’s a process…but, like others have said…these girls deserve good sized crowds consistently, I mean this should just be a start. It was almost like these reporters couldn’t think of anything else to ask.

Do It Episode 3 GIF by Star Wars
I’d love to see the women’s thread under the Illini Basketball board instead of general sports!

I bought in during her introductory news conference. Tuned in just out of curiosity and couldn’t turn her off. Love this lady and the way she coaches. She will not accept failure. It was clear what a leader she is when her former coaches and players wanted to follow her to Illinois when we were a bottom of the barrel program.

Congrats coach and players for making us proud!!

Hope BU was watching and saw the approach of taking the ball to the basket. Also, why do the women shoot free throws so much better than the men? Congrats girls. It was a fun game to watch and hang in there to win. Keep getting better because you could become something special.

WOW......Impressive might be an understatement for this presser...........both players were very polished as far as answering the questions and I loved Genesis Bryant stating how much she loves being at UI.....you could tell she meant every word of it and Bostic's answer's showed a clear understanding of the scouting report on how to approach this game......

Today's game showed me a team that has that chemistry and ability to make plays when needed whether it was Cook taking over or Bryant doing her heroics in the 4th quarter........I am more than impressed with the one track mind of this team and that's doing whatever is necessary to win the game ......

Coach Green has been a godsend for the fighting Illini's women's program .....she speaks eloquently about her team and the core values , but she also seem's like a fiery competitor who will put our team in the best position to win......

It is refreshing to hear the players responses about how they give credit to their teammates and I truly wish some of that would rub off on the men's side of the ledger..........it should be looked upon playing college BB at a world class university like UI as a once in a lifetime opportunity and doing away with your own pride for the sake of the pride for the school you represent.........

Some people could learn from this WBB team as something to emulate and support and take lessons from ......I don't know a lot about the other teams in the conference , but I do know we have a magnificent group of ladies and a top notch coach , so let's keep this train rolling to being ranked and finally RESPECTED around the league and the nation..........I believe we can do it ....................I really really do........

Huge win and great FamILLy moment from that video showed on here!

Iowa has a nice 1-2-3 punch with (very special) Clark, Czinano and Warnock. A bad game for Clark is like 20 points 5 rebounds 5 assists.

The two effective ways I see teams beating Iowa is hoping that the 2-3 punch are cold or one of them is cold. The other way which happened today is the 1-2-3 punch were solid but the Illini shut down the rest of the Iowa team. Clark, Czinano and Warnock make up close to 65% of the team scoring. Today they made up 85% of the team scoring and didn't get much contribution from the other 2 starters/bench. The other starters Marshall/Martin were 3-9 FG and 3-4 from 3PT range. Martin made one 3 pointer in the 1st and 2nd quarters than scoreless the rest of the game. Marshall made a 3 pointer in the 2nd half. Total of 9 points and no FT attempts for either of them and only 4 bench points from one of the three that played. It was a successful day playing against Clark. Weird saying that with a 32 point 5 rebound 7 assist performance but it was. She averages around 8 FT attempts a game and went 3-3 today which is tied for the 2nd fewest attempts this season. Also had 5 turnovers and first game she has fouled out since her freshman season.

Illinois doesn't have a ton of depth either but seems like the confidence is building up. Four players today with 16+ points is exceptional. Cook didn't have her best day shooting today and others stepped up. Bryant 8-10 FG, McKenzie 7-16 FG and Bostic 7-7 FG is out of this world.

I think it's easy to see why they shoot free throws so well. Great form. Patient, slight bend of the knees, GREAT arc, great rotation. Repeated every time. I wanted to punch Bardo in the head last game when he said it's a mystery why Dain doesn't shoot better from the line since he has good form and nice rotation. Good form? are you kidding me? He has some funking circle the ball around his head and then a line drive shot to the rim. Yeah, the ball is rotating but has little chance of being made. His line drive approach is either a terrible miss or the make is a fortunate line drive barely clearing the front of the rim. That equates to 50%. If he's going to play more mins the rest of the way, his FT shooting must get better. But for a few players none have good form resembling the ladies. As far as a theory as to why they shoot better from the line: they practiced growing up knowing there are free points at the line. If you watch a girls high school game it's the same thing: good form and good results. For the boys, I think growing up and especially in high school and whatever summer leagues they were in, FTs were never a priority. They don't get you noticed. Heck, go to any site and randomly pick a recruit. Any recruit. Do you ever see "very good FT shooter" listed as a strength. Teams see it as a bonus if a recruit has it. Until of course you're in game situations and your team is shooting in the 60% range and you are losing by single digits.

Great question my take, it's because free throw shooting is not based on athleticism it is based on fundamental mechanics, psychology and concentration, something that most of the female players excel. I thinking they are coached better at this because their game is played below the rim where fundamentals thrive, and the men's game is played above there rim where athleticism reigns supreme.
