Meanwhile, Nebby beat the pants off UMD in College Park, 91-71. On the one hand, we move a game above the Terps in the conference and alone in 4th. On the other, the Huskers will be a handful on Sunday. Can't wait to watch the game on BTN on Sunday.
Nebraska had lost two home games in a row to Michigan and Iowa and were not putting up a lot of points. Looks like the coaches had their attention for the game on the road against Maryland. We will need to get our shooting and defense back on track. I feel like Markowski had been a Husker for about the last
ten years. (-: Penn State beat to us loose balls and rebounds, but the veterans got the job done in the fourth quarter. Let's GO ILLINI!

Very sparse crowd. Brutally cold here tonight and that may have a lot to do with the low attendance. Coach Green said at Half that Illini need to go downhill instead of so many long 2's and 3's. Also said need to block out. Uncharacteristically, Illini missing free throws! I think Adalia seems very sped up & over-hyped...
3983. Sparse student section.

Berry Wallace only played 12 mins. That's pretty unusual.

Heck of a performance by Juju tonight as USC takes down previously undefeated #1 UCLA. Facing her and Lauren Betts in back to back road games is going to be rough; two very different challenges.

This game required max toughness because Penn State were dogs tonight. Had to fight for every loose ball. I think Coach Green wasn't seeing that from Berry. She took her out pretty quickly in the first half after she let a rebound or loose ball get knocked from her hands. I counted three occasions in the game where Wallace had her hands on a rebound or loose ball and was quickly dispossessed by either a bump or reach by a Penn State player. Schoup-Hill was playing with more tenacity toward securing possessions.

Cori Allen always brings that kind of grit, in my observation. Though she's not contributing a ton to the stat sheets, I always feel optimistic with her on the floor. Wish she were four inches taller. Thought she did well in a few moments where she brought the ball up the court. Hot take: I think she's got traits that work in a point guard role. I don't know about getting a defender on the wrong foot and creating for others, but she fights you before she'll give up the ball and can bully her way to the rim. Kind of like watching Ty Rodgers as point guard. I say it for so fragile are we at the point guard position. And she hit a couple of threes in five attempts last season. This season, the rims haven't been as kind to her.

Another win!! Love this team and am so impressed by what they've achieved despite injuries. Shauna is absolutely right--they deserve a packed stadium.

We locked up tonight a conference record above .500 and a 20-win regular season. Let's stay hungry and get more!

*Also, kudos to Jayla Oden for having a good return game. Nice to see her do well... and the Illini win.

Three short years ago this team finished 7-20 (1-13 in conference - dead last). What Shauna and the seniors have accomplished is amazing.

"With five returners from the 2021-22 Illinois squad that posted a 7-20 record, [Coach] Green delivered the largest turnaround in program history and one of the top all-time in Big Ten history. The 15-win improvement from the previous season's 7-20 campaign set a new best turnaround in program history and ranks third best in Big Ten history. In league play, Illinois tallied 10 more wins than the 2021-22 mark (1-13), the best turnaround in program history, which tied for the best all-time in the Big Ten."

There were many tough seasons to watch until the "glory days" now. Transfer portal definitely expedited the process (y)

If anyone complains about not playing enough players or widening the bench....look back at seasons like 3 years ago. That team played so many players and double digit minutes because lack of talent. Shauna Green plays a tight rotation because of the talent level/gap(forced to widen due to injuries). When that changes in the future, it's because more talent is coming and/or have games in hand early.
