Josh Whitman won't let athletes suit up after multiple concussions. His predecessor didn't have a policy on dealing with player concussions. . Josh had to deal with multiple lawsuits left over from the Thomas regime, including a soccer player who was cleared to play a couple of weeks after she suffered a concussion, IIRC.

Got it. I did not know that was why Cook was sidelined.

Thank you

Will Shay Bolin be back?

In my opinion, lack of fan support would be the ONLY reason we could lose Shauna Green as a coach. She has done so much with so little .I'm sure the fan support has increased since she has come, but we may be bottom 6 in attendance..Other teams with support could make ILL-INI a stepping stone place again.
This has been my feeling as well and you can tell it is important to her. You know Shauna is on the short list for winning coaches. We should be at an 8000 to 10,000 attendance rate. She does have great support from her AD and that means a lot.

I appreciate the insight on Cook and Bollin. Tough breaks for those gals and I wish it had been different. I 100% support JW on the concussion issue, it's not something you want to deal with as a responsible party. It's just not worth the risk in this situation from an institutional or personal perspective. These gals have their whole lives ahead of them and risking a life-long injury that could effect their mental (and/or physical) health should not even be considered.

Hmmmmmm Steelmen 72 is that in reference to the great Joliet Central Steelmen team of 72 with Roger Powell Sr. he of unlimited range on the court, well before the 3-point line was introduced his shooting range extended far beyond it. I remember some epic battles with my Lockport Porters team back then (class of 77) OH yeah that was high school cage back in the day seems like yesterday!

She's played only spot minutes in the last five years since injuring her knee in her junior year of high school.
I thought it was her back that has been keeping her out here these past few years.

You're welcome. It's a shame that she got concussed in a meaningless exhibition game two seasons ago - that's why I hate playing these games. A clumsy DII player tripped Makira and she hit her head really hard on the floor. Without that incident, she'd probably be playing.

That is awful. So then she may play somewhere else next year right?

It is about 8 months till next season's first game. Till then, we have Michigan on Sunday, the BTT starting March 5th and the NCAA starting on March 19th. Go Illini.

She still has eligibility, but it does seem like as a university you wouldn't want a student being physically affected for life..This school is always a Student first Athlete second situation and with the degree you received from there has great value...

Well it seems like they can somehow scrounge up 15 thousand in this area for their male counter parts and 60 thousand for football at triple the price of 12 bucks. This program deserves the support given where it has come from, really in a very short time.. They will be hard to ignore soon.

I'm wondering with our recruiting prowess will we get at least one or two big time transfers.I think we may need another day taller combo guard that can handle the point and another forward since it isn't likely we will have enough experience in those areas.I think from the Center spot we have enough to cover those minutes, but we will be kinda raw at that position, plenty of size though..

I thought it was her back that has been keeping her out here these past few years.
It has been her back this year. Possibly caused by favoring her good leg after surgery on her knee in high school. In the early games this season she was wearing an awkward looking device on her back that was considerably more substantial than a brace. It was attached to a satchel looking device with hoses running, back and forth, to the back device. I saw her loading the device with ice cubes one game. She no longer has that and, I think, has no brace at all. She seems to be moving well as a spectator during warmups. I have no idea whether she wants to play again. To the best of my knowledge, they haven't declared her a medical redshirt like they have Makira, Lety and Gretchen. They can still redshirt her and let her have her junior season back if both parties are interested.

There are some openings for more new players for next year. It's hard to tell how many due to the new landscape of college athletics. You can't be sure who might return next year. Will our injured players all return? Will Catoria return? Will Zenere earn a scholarship? Will she return? Will all five signed recruits actually show up (two are already here)? Will Green choose to fill all 15 scholarships (she didn't this year)?

#448
Well so far I don't think she would fill all of the scholarships because so far she has had some short rotations. I do think she believes in her players, but it seems like she has some stringent requirements for minutes lol. That 15th schollie would have to be like an academic booster to the overall GPA...lol.Some have mentioned that Cook has an issue with concussion and Shay Bollin has a back issues and before knee problems.

Are we still in the race for the last double bye ?
We need to be in the top four. We cannot catch UCLA, USC or Ohio State (unless OSU loses out and then the teams that beat them would be ahead of us). Maryland is a game ahead of us on the loss side but if they lose to either Indiana or Ohio State, we will have the tiebreaker over them (assuming that we beat Michigan). Both Michigan State and Michigan are also tied with us on the loss side but if we beat Michigan, we would knock them out. Michigan State still must play Ohio State and Minnesota. If they lose to either, they would be knocked out. If they win both, then they have the tiebreaker over us.

So, we must beat Michigan and then we want Ohio State to win out. I think.
