They have nothing to do with knee injuries
I disagree. Trainers get fired all the time in sports because of way too many injuries. This woman is married to Fletcher who is the mens trainer. Under his watch, the men team has had one significant injury and that was to Goode who broke his foot. Ty injury was off campus. The men and women have the same equipment. The women have had significant injuries every year and it's going on 4 years.

If they aren't catching minor injuries & holding back the girls from going full speed, then they most certainly have something to do with it. When a whole bunch of players on a football team start getting injured, the strength & conditioning coach gets fired a lot of the time. Either the practices need to get less physical or the conditioning regimen needs to get better. No one is this unlucky.

Female knee injuries are FAR more common than male.

I doubt there is anyone to blame.

terrible news on Finney and Alves..........it really really is,,,,,
Impressive. Looks like they shoot (and make) a lot of threes. BTW, we play miznoz in Dec.

This is why we need deep roster. We had short bench last year due to losing dolan, cook vasconcelis and caroira

This year we still have depth

Guard
Dolan, jackson, guyton, bown-hagar, weber

F
Benson, smith, wallace, vaconcelos, catoira,

I do hope one of these freshmen can turn into a prospect.Berry looks likely with a better handle there are no limits to her game.I wouldn't be surprised if she was 18 6 and 5 a night. From there she would get looks from the W..

Back in the day (70's) our training consisted of aerobic drills. Toughest being running the stairs at Memorial Stadium. My recollection was shin splints and sprained ankles for the most part. I have often wondered if the weight training along with the aerobics can at times be too much for some female athletes physiques?. I do however, have little doubt that our trainers are going to set up individual training programs they feel the players can handle. We have more depth this year but let's hope we stay healthy during the season.

number of knee injuries in woman HS sports is crazy
I have been told female anatomy not optimal for basketball, flag football, soccer etc.

playing year around same sport has got to be part of problem. rotating sports puts different stress level

Really excited for the first look tomorrow night of our '25-'26 squad. Very very young but also very athletic. It will be interesting to see how the coaches mix and match lineups. Great to see that all Reserved Seat Season Tickets are Sold Out!! Noisy home crowds will be a big boost. Especially for the new players. I just know we can and should start to match teams like Indiana and Purdue for attendance. The other fun news today is that KB will be sitting courtside with Mike Kooms as the color commentator this season. As someone often interviewed and in many press conferences I know she will be comfortable and bring good insight to the broadcasts. I also noted she was participating in practice today and once again spotted leaning against Hayden. Don't for get to take a nap now and then KB!

KB has been my favorite player since I started paying attention to WBB when Shauna came on, so great news. Curious though if KB is still working with university, and if so how common is it for an employee of a university to be part of the broadcast? Not saying there is anything wrong with it, just curious.
Yes. Bostic still works in development with Varsity I. Koon also works for the university over at Gies College of Business. Deon Thomas also works in development.

Love and appreciate KB also. Really loved watching her play. My avatar will remain unchanged! Go Illini.

Thanks. Did not realize that. Guess it makes sense for radio, which has typically has a more local feel.

I had an interesting conversation with someone who is a Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer—bad news and good news. The bad news is that females have 2-8 times the ACL injuries as males, and that has been the case for many years. The good news is that specific exercise programs that focus on improving jumping and landing mechanics in females can significantly reduce ACL injuries and likely other types of knee injuries. I hope they both have a speedy recovery from whatever the injuries may be.
