Though we currently stand at 10-1, we aren't finishing games particularly well. Some of our fourth quarter results:
SEMO beat us 24-19
Ill State tied us 20-20
Oregon St. beat us 21-18
Murry St. beat us 18-17
Indiana waxed us 25-10
N. Texas beat us 25-18

Not sure why but I wonder if it isn't a reflection of the number of minutes some of our kids are playing. Wallace and Dolan are our leading scorers, but they are averaging 32 and 30 minutes per game.
I’m not going to take the time to confirm this but I would not be surprised to find out that most of Wallace and Dolans bench time is during the 4th quarter. Which would explain better why we get outscored then.

A real brute {Tac}. She's only played 24 minutes this season but has 9 fouls. They seem to only play her as an enforcer. There was one play today where Wallace was on the floor fighting for a loose ball and this gal literally dived on top of her.
Probably not a brute but someone that doesn't play much that specifically gets in to expend fouls and is effective at it...

Disappointed Illini Women only received 1 vote in AP Top 25 Poll. Oh well, keep on progressing like they have, and it will come.

Well I kinda expected this because the schedule to this point looks kinda cupcakes aplenty, but I'm glad of it in a way because it helped the learning curve.. Things will change drastically after the Michigan State game..

I think we play Jackson State and Purdue next ..Those two teams won't move the needle much....Unless we lose.. Michigan State will be the first ranked team we play.... Certainly I'm not denying the obvious ILLINI obscurity in the voting basketball mindset...Or they might view us as the third youngest team in the P5 conferences with a soft schedule.

In today’s game the 4th quarter amplified the advantage North Texas over us at each position. Where we have better athleticism they had size advantage. Where we had size they had athleticism advantage. In the 4th, the full court pressure turned us over and inexplicably we did not call timeout when trapped (Destiny).

We then had forced shots, some blocked (Berry).

And our D was soft especially at the rim.

The refs impact was material too for both teams.

A lot to learn from this 4th for the team, imo. It was tough to watch and Geeen was upset at the officiating.
so was I

Haven definitely has size that you can’t teach. Offensively she doesn’t appear to be someone you want shooting.

Benson has girth and athleticism that could really spell a couple of players. Surprised she’s not being developed in game situations but perhaps we don’t want to provide too much tape? (Wishful thinking)

Excited to see how coach approaches these top tier B1G teams. She definitely has some pieces to work with similar to the men’s.
To be honest,as Illinois recruits a top ten class.,.? Everyone of them should play because NO player in the top 100has to or maybe want to come here to sit..We don't have two of those five to play(which may be a great bonus next year)in this season...I love the Coach Green passion and coaching style but her eyes down the bench is notoriously near sighted. The reason you can't have top 100 players on the bench is that they don't have to take back bench positionsSp I really do hope they find some run for Naomi..It speaks to recruiting for sure....You can do this if you're a blue blood but we are not there yet....I Do Believe thatan Illinois women's team could create a dominant period though

Coach Greens eyes down the bench are notoriously CLEAR sighted. There is a significant drop off in player ability after the top 8. That I think is pretty CLEAR. Coach Green is more concerned about how you will perform on the court this year than she is about where you were rated last year. When Naomi wins Coach Greens trust I’m sure her playing time will increase. I too think she has potential to someday be in the rotation.

High school rankings really do not mean much, except possibly the top 25-50, which are so obvious that anyone could predict success. Beyond that, you get playing time based on practice and game performance. Does anyone believe that Coach Green would sit players who she thinks could add value to the team right now and in the upcoming Big Ten season? A recent example is Cori Allen, whom I really liked, but it was clear she was not going to get playing time at ILL. She was highly ranked, but that did not always translate to playing time. I am happy she is playing at Memphis. Most teams have a 7-9 player rotation. If you don’t give them minutes, they will be the players in the portal.

I know Coach Green knows way more than we fans do, but I have seen her pull Haven and other bench players after two minutes. Many of these non conference games were not close. I think she could have allowed more playing time during these games.

Probably trying to offset the weak opponent with a blowout to improve the NET rating.

Guyton would be starting if Destiny (5 star) was not here. Still possibility if Shauna transitions to small speed lineup that she could or Maddy could teplace Jasmine as starter. They all play +20 minutes so it is appearance only

Purdue plays Jackson State tomorrow I believe so we can gage them. They are 7-4 with a loss to Number 12 Kentucky and Number 6 Michigan. Let’s keep the3 winning going as this is Coach Greens’ best and deepest team as an Illini.
