In basketball, if you step on the court you are credited with a minute so I looked at the play-by-play record. It shows that she came in the game with 31.4 seconds left. So I look up the video (I have a file of this clip) and saw how Illinois was blowing PS out and the coaches let the bench players in at the end of the game. Gleason comes in on defense, PS scores, she brings the ball up the court, passes the ball, cuts to the corner and stand by the arc until the clock expires. I am not saying that she wasn't hurt or couldn't have aggravated an injury in that benign 31.4 seconds but I would think it unlikely. It didn't jive with a kid being "forced" to play. It is a stretch to believe that a coach is putting an injured player on the floor in garbage time unless you are already predisposed to think the worst about a coach. I have seen people comment about this assuming that she played a significant role on the team and the coaches were abusing her by putting her on the floor to win games. She played a total of 24 minutes last season! She was out injured. The truth is more likely that things didn't work they way her parents expected based on her high school success. It has to be the coaches fault.
I found a lot in the letters to be sketchy. Gleason claims his daughter was forced to play in the Penn State game in January on an injured foot and inferred that it led to a break. A quick look at the stats on the Illini website tells you that she was credited with 1 minute playing time.
