Illini Women's Basketball

I’m thinking the way the play ended, there’s a real belief ,grit and hunger on this team that says with the new freshmen and a couple of transfers our Illini women WILL compete for a B1G title,no doubt…
Gonna be nearly impossible to win a Big Ten title with JuJu and USCs 3 incoming McDs joining the league. Yikes!!

We will be a ncaa tournament team next year. Top third of big ten a lot depends on big 10 schedule with new additions it could be brutal or favorable. Either way love this team and trust the coaching staff. Can't wait to cheer them on.

Making the NCAA Tournament year in and out is the short term goal

We have a ton of experience back for next season. Green is slowly upgrading the talent level here and will lose a ton of players after next season. Not worried about next season but more so when we lose 4 starters.

Making the NCAA Tournament

Likely preseason top 25 like last season.

Running the top 4 back for third season in a row.

Team needs a front court starter next to KB and top 8 in rotation have to stay healthy.
You got that right!!

I have been an avid Illini WBB fan for a long time , all the way back to the pre Grentz era......The Fahey era was tough to deal with.....It really really was , but now with Shauna green as our HC I feel we are in a position to attain some goals that seemed way out of our grasp before coach Green came to the Illini.........She has a passion for coaching and she is very astute in her approach for next season as she alluded to the rough stretches we had this year and holding herself and the players accountable......

the home loss blowout to scUM early in conference play could have been a demoralizing kick in the butt to the program and it is true we lost numerous close games this year.......but the metamorphosis of this team throughout the season culminating in the 5 game winning streak for the WBIT championship showed what we can do , especially with 4 returning starters for next season.....

Also the 20 point win over the loosiers late in the season was a springboard for our play the rest of the season........our play in the WBIT was an amazing show of team play with so many plays showcasing how we played as a team with numerous great passes down low for the bucket........

I am as happy as I have ever been for the state of the MBB , WBB and FB programs as each has the right coach at the right time for sustained success........

JMHO..................

Over 1100 in the transfer portal and some real good players available

Going to puke if Lucy Olsen (23 pts/game) transfers from Nova to Iowa 🤮 Hopefully won't happen

Since Tara Verderveer has retired...
wondering if class of 2024 point guard Shay Ijiwoye, who signed with Stanford over us, will ask for a release from her NLI and reopen her recruitment; or, if any Stanford players with strong ties to our assistant coach Britney Anderson enter the transfer portal.

Kate Paye will take over and don't think the program dynamic will change. She has pretty much been coach 1B in training for years. Won a championship as a player and assistant coach. Her whole family went to Stanford and likely one of the easier transitions after losing such a great coach.

Not saying it can't happen but Shay was #1 priority on the Stanford recruiting trail

It wasn't really about one or two games against us when I made the comment. I would prefer she doesn't go to Iowa
I know and I agree. I was just referring to the great job Adalia did on her in the 2nd half.

I am aware ;)

(Posted the non-Illinois comment in the Women's Basketball Forum but Mod closed it and moved here. Main reason have posted some non-IL stuff here lately)

^^^^^^^

Thought it would have been announced this morning. Sorry busy one today

Ideally looking for 2 bigs and another guard in the rotation before this move. She changed her mind, nothing wrong with that

3 transfer portal slits for Shauna. Brad sets a high bar for Illinois coaches!

Just noticed that Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Oregon are all losing double digit scorers to the portal. Glad that's not the case with us.

100%

Oregon State just went to the Elite 8 (lost to South Carolina) and the team is dismantled since going to Mountain West. Prime time player 6'4 Raegan Beers (avg 17 pts, 10 rebs) the latest to enter portal today. She has her pick of the litter plus some money coming her way.

The whole thing I don't understand is there are new names every hour entering the portal in the Women's game. Majority of Women's basketball teams lose money. Must be some hidden money coming in from somewhere. :ROFLMAO: LSU lost the program just under $8 million when they won NCAA Championship in 2023.

Transfer portal should be making the headlines but keep an eye on 2025 recruit Divine Bourrage. ESPN just moved her up to the #4 in the class. This is the one we don't want to get away and hopefully Shauna can reel her in when it's time.
