Illinois 101, St. Francis (IL.) 34 Exhibition Postgame

My takeaways from the game:
1) I'm more excited about hutch. The game just seem to come to him so smoothly. It was a joy to see him play. Obviously, this was against much lower competition, but even if he can give 50%, it will be huge.
2) coleman hawkins will take a big step. If he can stretch and play some good defense, we're going to be doing well
3) Trent seems to really want that defensive player recognition. He was everywhere! Tough kid.

Tough to match what Hutch and Hawk bring physically. Length and athleticism make them tough matchups, particularly when they can shoot from range. If they can play defense, they are the difference between a very good team and a great team. May be too early to know but not to early to dream.

And I really, really liked seeing Hutch get extended minutes at the point. With his athleticism and shooting, that'll be a matchup problem for a lot of teams, and an energy saver for Trent when Belo is taking a breather.

I think we are a pretty deep team.
Coach must be having fun with all of the combinations available. That will be fun to analyze here I'm sure.

Lotta points potentially if some of these shooters (and Kofi) get hot together.

I don’t understand how anyone that watched that game didn’t like what they saw from Omar. He missed some shots, but big deal. You know what he didn’t miss? A defensive assignment. He was a rim protector and swatted away some shots. I am no longer nervous for the 5 spot, when Kofi is on the bench. People won’t take advantage of Payne on defense like they did GB.
Agreed. I loved his effort on D. A good 1st game imo.

Trent Frazier & Da'monte Williams!

These super seniors are studs and vital to this team. The toughness and confidence they bring to this team is so important. They embody what has defined some of the best Illinois teams. These two just walk on the court with so much confidence and I have no doubt they are the big dogs in the locker room. Trent was all over the court, diving after every loose ball, and was a great example for the freshmen. With all the talent we have offensively, these guys will be key to helping us be a dominate team on the other end. Let's Go!!

Just realized we had 6 different players make a 3, none of whom were DMW Grandi, Plummer or Goode. Only shot 23 for the game. I realize it was an exhibition so we didn’t want to pile on but I hope we shoot 30+ this year.
