Illinois 102, Southern 55 POSTGAME

Also, did this with Tejon, Kipper and Leron playing less than 15 minutes. I feel like those three (plus Finke) are the ones who know the offense best, so to be able to get others minutes in game situations and advance the learning will be valuable as we move towards the Big 10 Season

BU was such a great hire. Looking forward to seeing how we do this year.

BU has a chance to be the next Henson if he wants it

And I'd wager that BU will still chew on them. No let down Sunday.

The talent level discrepancy was sort of like the 1992 Dream Team versus, say, Egypt. That is to say that we just beat what might be one of the worst D1 teams out there. But damn it's nice to feel like the Dream Team every once in a while.

The best part about this is we put up all these points and nobody looked comfortable running the offense. Imagine how good its going to be when they actually know what they are doing!

Exactly, and Smith was sitting alot. Should have won big and did. AJ was all over , out of control at times, but nice to see him get his chance. Good game to build on.:thumb::illinois:

I think you are thinking of Angola....they never played Egypt. (smiley face)

I looked at the SI rankings. Illinois is ranked 83 and SIU is like 120 so this is a bit hyperbole.

Apparently they play Duke and when I heard that I cringed a lot. Gonna be an ugly game lol.

Good win. Completely whooped them in convincing fashion

Trent plays in your face defense. Mark smith is strong. Free throws are king. Team got the message. Damonte - man i wanted him to throw down that dunk. Tejon is a good floor leader. Finke needs to play this aggressive all the time.

I think I am going to love this version of illini basketball. Not going to over react here but if they keep this type of effort and mentality then good things will come and A LOT of players will shine in this offense

I know you're not supposed to enjoy giving a drubbing...but dammit, it feels so good. :D

Yes you are. This is D1 basketball. You should want to drub everyone, and once they're on the ground begging for mercy, you step on their throats and continue the whooping. If you want to worry about not hurting the other teams feelings go watch some 6th graders, or hire John Groce as your coach

Positive: Transition defense was much better tonight. No doubt what the emphasis was in practice.

Positive: Pace was much better. Illini have an identity. Illini have a coach.

Negative: Anyone with skilled big men will absolutely destroy the Illini. We are going to be in for some long nights when it gets into the conference season if we aren't shooting it well.

By the way - Southern is a horrendous team. Absolutely horrible. Don't let the 50 point win camouflage things.....

What was the line on this game. I went looking for predictions and only found two, both saying Illinois wins but barely. Any others? I know now that everyone will be saying, yeah, Illinois won, but look who they were playing. But four hours ago...what was being said then?
