I stayed up a bit late yesterday to see the highlights and expecting the shotgun snap bounce pass from Majak to Humrichous to be a top 10 play but zero coverage. I know it was a later game (though I live in the Morton Grove of Portland… the heart of enemy territory), but I was disappointed still.

Oh well. GREAT game. Classic B1G 10 humbled the new kid on the block thieve past few days. I think we reintroduced ourselves to the college hoops world.

I honestly have zero idea what you're talking about. I actually really enjoyed the broadcast. Good information about both teams, a lot of background about the importance of the game coming in, emphasized just how the metrics showed the teams were evenly matched if the rankings didn't show it, and they kept the broadcast interesting even after the result was well out of doubt.

I'll take a broadcast like that all day, every day.
The next postgame thread that doesn't whine about the announcers for being anything short of "Brian Barnhart but on TV" will be the first.

Hey guys, if we seamlessly transition from whining about "ACCSPN" to "SECSPN" maybe some introspection is required! Or - just enjoy the best run of Illini sports in most of our lives without obsessively searching for grievances, my god.

My favorite broadcast moment of last night was Jacobsen saying "(KJ) has that salsa to his game" after the between the legs dish to Humrichous for that 3.

Illinois has had some great guards over the years, but I don't think any of them have ever had the precision of running the game that KJ has. Deron Williams is the best point guard I've ever watched play at Illinois (I'm a bit too young to really remember the Douglas/Harper years a lot), but his game wasn't as precise as KJ's is. KJ just plays like everyone else is sped up to 2.0 and he continues to play at a 1.0 speed level. I can't really explain it, but when I see it in a basketball game I'm mesmerized by it. For the soccer fans in this thread, KJ's game reminds me a lot of Kevin DeBruyne's game. Not that many "White Chocolate" flashy passes (but we did see a couple last night), but just makes the game look so simple and almost always makes the right decision and executes it flawlessly. He doesn't need that ultra-flashy pass.

I said it in the game thread, but my favorite pass of the night is still the bounce pass to White for the driving layup on the left side of the basket. That pass looked simple, but it was an absolute thing of beauty. KJ had the right angle for White's cut, put the perfect pace on the pass, and led White where he had one step with no dribble to the basket. I jumped off the couch for that pass, even though I know it wasn't a spinning pass or a between the legs drop pass.

I actually agree about shooters needing to shoot.but any coach worth his wait in salt knows if said shooter can hit the broad side of a barn and plays the worst defense in illini uniform for years maybe other then the groce era.look man I understand he had a decent night no denying that and I'm not rooting against him but any coach will play the play the player that's going to win him the game and until tonight that hasn't been ben.im not saying not to give a shooter a chance to shoot but by your standing if we played Ben over morez in bragging rights that would have been a loss.ben brought nothing to that game other then points for mizzou it goes both ways.so youd give up morez development over 3 decent games by Ben and horrible defensive play?I'm not trying to argue if that is the case then I'd have to call you the amateur
And this is why the Ignore function was invented. Thank you for having it @Dan !

Two thoughts, in no particular order of importance:

1. We need to stop and reflect on how hard it is to do the jobs that Josh, BU and Bret have in order to achieve at the levels that BB and FB are presently.
2. I will sacrifice a limb to get that arched Illini quarter-zip that BU was rockin' last night.

It's safe to say that I have never in my life felt as good on a January 3rd as I do today.

Stayed up for it, and couldn't believe what I saw. Oregon for sure having an off night, but that IL performance was something to luxuriate in. Too many superlatives to track. The bench has clearly accepted their role and made a huge difference in the trajectory of the game.

Have to admit I wasn't expecting these guys to travel that well. Young team, entirely new roster, and they are playing well together. Don't wake me!

Always thought Dana Altman was a class act... until he said "they're a good offensive team but they're not that good" which I'm adding to my fuel. Keeping my receipts.
I think there was more than a little bit of a "wake the eff up" to his own team in those comments. Good coaches know the right buttons to push and the right things to say to get the point across to their teams.

I took that comment as saying, "Yes, Illinois is a really good offensive team, but our defense has to improve. We can't give up 109 points." I didn't take it as a dig at Illinois. Full disclosure that I'm a long-time Dana Altman fan and feel he hasn't really got the recognition that he deserves for the consistently good teams he's put on the floor at multiple schools.

And regarding the "blow-by", I'm not expecting a coach who just got smoked by 32 on his home floor as a top ten team to be all smiley and warmly hugging the opposing staff. I'd be ticked off as well.

Good morning all.................hope today finds you in a positive frame of mind as much as I am in over the last 3 days of glorious wins in Illini FB and last night roasting of the # 9 Ducks.......it , without a doubt , has been the best medicine that good ole pru could ever have had.........

Talk about a true TEAM effort on a late night for all of us Central time zoner's to enjoy and savor.........the lads unleashed a barrage of athleticism and skill upon the ducks and they withered like a fart in a whirlwind............total arse kickin and taking names , as we used to say in the Cro-Magnum past era of my life...........Release the hounds and watch them hunt , and hunt they did.....

They really really really did...........

To all my Illini brothers and sisters here who have shown love and support in my 3 + weeks absence from the board I say thank you from the bottom of my O & B heart............To those of you who have posted about your trials and tribulations regarding health problems , I offer you the same support level as I have received........it means a lot to me to have that support so I want to share that support with you too.........

Thank you Jake & DGL for keeping us in the game in the 1st half........As BU stated so too the point last night , you 2 Illini won the game for us , so the rest of the Illini could come out and lay the wood to the yellow and green horde in the second half ......

The second half performance by the beloved was a masterpiece in how to break down an opponent's will to compete.......Last night's game will be remembered by ole pru as poetry in motion with so many highlight plays to witness.........

Naw he's just saying his own team didn't bring the effort on defense. He's not wrong. We're not going to shoot 55% from 3 most nights, and if our opponent did that we'd rightfully say a lot of that is on our defense.
