Did any of the ten teams ranked above us lose this week? IOW, what are the chances we climb in the polls this week?
FAU and AZ both lost. In theory we could go as high as #7 in the Coaches Poll. But I'll bet we start slipping in both. Losing TSJ is actually much more impactful than losing even just one game in a given week.

AP --- #12/#13
Coaches --- #10/#11

Do the polls actually take stuff like this into account in college basketball? I feel like they usually don’t.

Using UConn as a case study, I would assume it’s unlikely we drop until we lose games.

UConn lost one of their best players, lost a game without him, then almost lost another game, yet did not drop.

My guess is we move up 1-2 spots tomorrow.

If we beat Northwestern and then lose close’ish @Purdue, we likely drop 1-2 spots.

Then it’s wait & see how the team performs from there. Continue winning games & I could see us continuing to rise in the rankings.

I don't expect that the polls would punish us for losing TSJ. But it wouldn't surprise me.

On the other hand, you can be sure that they wouldn't just give us an automatic promotion in the polls if Shannon were to come back later in the year.

I think many of the voters have proven that they do not really know much about Illinois and their team. I don't see them penalizing the Illini too much, they have no idea how good he has been this year.
