Even in a 58 point win you could only make a negative post. Your glass must be 10% full.
The positivity was covered. No need to repeat what's already been said in my opinion but I guess if I'll say something positive that bears repeating: Mirkovic is fantastic and had better start the rest of the season.

I'm not saying to make them play, I've been assuming that all the injuries are worse than we're told. We were told it was minor with Petrovic and Andrej, both have missed a game so far.

Brandon we could've found out sooner. We didn't know until Scott Richey watched the Illini come out for warm-ups and tweeted about it, which seemed to force their hand. It's not 1970, a lot of money legally moves around on sports and transparency is expected or you end up facing what the NBA is facing today. Lee won't change any betting patterns but Andrej being a gametime decision against real opponents might.

We operate under a budget, I'm not blaming them for getting injured, but if they're recovering they're not gonna be 100%, which is different than fine. Fine to me is play decently for 20 minutes. We need them to be great, we're not facing Jackson State every night.
And they would’ve gotten away with it if it weren’t for that meddling Scott Richey noticing the obvious!

Man… with all due respect, this is a really dumb take.

This may be the least I have ever yelled at my TV during an Illini BB game. Nice W to start the season. Lots to like.
Think I yelled once at the announcers, and by extension Brad, in TSJ's defense when hearing (repeatedly) that BF is the greatest athlete in Illinois history.

If I ever got to zero yells I am afraid such a unicorn event would open some quantum singularity. Better safe than sorry.

To be fair, it was just the greatest athlete he’s ever coached… not in Illinois history. But yeah… your sentiment is exactly as mine.

Maybe it didn't happen to you, but when other Illini fans are asking "Where's Brandon?" and complaining that not all of our guys are seeing the floor, and I have to tell them he's injured because there's no way they could've known without being terminally online, there's a communication problem.

I beginning to think that someone may want to take a chance on Mirk in the league. He is much more skilled that I knew about. Barring injury, does anyone on here feel the same way. Kid seems to have a bright future.

I suspect that is why he came here. After watchig his brother play.

Some of these comments on here … Would have thought we lost by 50 and Hamer got D Coordinator duties back … My goodness …

Tonight's leading minutes getter was Jake Davis, just like everyone was expecting.
Well, I have written several posts over the last 2 or 3 weeks predicting that Jake would be given more minutes to the point where they would be considered meaningful minutes, although I didn’t think he would start. I based my prediction on BU’s comments that he would be playing Jake a “lot more”, so it was definitely not my own basketball acumen.

I watched part of the Maryland game before ours, and I am happy to say that I think we will destroy them this year. They have a good player in Pharrel Payne, but he's not going to dominate us with his size. I know, cart before and all, but, being here in the state, I love when we beat Maryland.

Mirk the Mercenary awesome. Needs to do YOGA 2x per week. Kid can be special. Keaton at 6.6ft gonna be a handful for 3 years. We are not athletic at all. We had bettter get healthy quickly.
I love are 3 big and 2 guards at 6.6ft lineup. BigZ and Tomi have no idea what defense is, they should be dominating on that end. Looking forward to Big10 season, hopefully we are healed up!

I will admit this game has me excited for the season with 2 very large pieces still out. Granted, we just beat a team that might barely beat a really good high school team. Hyperbole, before you blast me.

1. Mirkovic is a stud. What a nice piece to have.
2. Big Z will not contribute a whole lot this year. Sorry. He is not athletic, too skinny and sloppy with the ball.
3. Wagler is not a one and done. Not close to it. I watched a one and done last night in Koa Peat for Arizona. And Dybansta for BYU. Those dudes are one and done.
4. This team is going to struggle to score when they are not shooting 46% from 3. They don't have many guys that create their own shot.
5. Boswell is just a great defender. Wish they had 5 guys that could defend like him.
6. How much better will they be with the 2 starters that they were missing? Can't wait to see.

Great game to watch. Entertaining even though a blow out. Maybe it’s the new faces. I don’t remember an early game being this interesting.

Love to see players make mistakes. Bad decisions/passes/moves. Learn from it and move forward.

Liked Waggler’s drives. Will learn what shots he wants and where he wants it.

Mirkovic was fun to watch. Kept pushing boundaries on what he could get away with.

Ben appeared to have better shot selection as far as when to take it- last year some were way to early on the possession, when need to run offense. We’ll see what happens in a closer game.

JJ moves well for a big guy, had never seen him play.

Would’ve liked to see more zone and different combinations because they obviously need more tape and experience on that.

Watching on TV, I was surprised to learn that the Illini were just one short of the school record for made threes.
Don't seem to recall Levering mention that at any point during the broadcast...

I have no idea what will happen with Wagler in the future, but just keep in mind that there are different levels of "one and dones". Cam Christie was a one and done. One and done isn't synonymous with lottery pick.

Anyway, great start, handled what they had in front of them. On to the next!

I mean, we sit here wondering how serious the injuries we're aware of are, and then Brandon Lee walks out in a boot and we find out he's probably out until December hours before a game. It's comical how cagey the team is when it comes to injuries and we're expected to accept "he'll be fine" and wait around.

Brandon we could've found out sooner. We didn't know until Scott Richey watched the Illini come out for warm-ups and tweeted about it, which seemed to force their hand.

Illinois has always been correct with their Availability Reports info. Availability Reports are posted publicly on bigten.org between 2 hours-to-2h30m prior to tipoff.

With the Lee injury, IL posted it on the Availability Report on or before 5:14pm (2h20m prior to tipoff), and Underwood addressed the situation in his various game day interviews, all was proper & professional.

Maybe it didn't happen to you, but when other Illini fans are asking "Where's Brandon?" and complaining that not all of our guys are seeing the floor, and I have to tell them he's injured because there's no way they could've known without being terminally online, there's a communication problem.
Nice, always good to help out on the sharing of new info. This is a huge fanbase & there's always going to be times where some fans may not be up-to-date on a new situation. Go Illini

Two things in response to #4:

1. The two guys who can create their own shot (Petro and Andrej) were both out this game and should be back soon.

2. We rebounded 63% of our missed shots. Had we shot 0% from 3 last night on the same attempts and rebounded those misses at the same rate + scored on put-backs at our game % from 2 (also 63%), we still would have scored 91 points and covered the spread.

Will we rebound 63% of our misses against B1G teams? No, of course not. But last year, we were #1 in the nation in rebounds per game and with our size, we'll likely be right up there again this year.

We currently have the #2 offensive efficiency in the country according to KenPom. Even on a night where the 3's don't fall, we'll still likely be top 15 in that dept.

Your point #2 is insane, and while it occurred to me that our 3 point shooting and rebounding were as optimal as it gets, I never thought of it this way (so thank you for extrapolating it for everyone)

0 for 37 from 3 and still score 91 and win by 36 points... just absurd... and you have to look around the country at top teams playing similar or worse comp while not having 2 of their top 6 miss the game and only win by 5-15 points
