Illinois 120, Fairleigh Dickinson 45 Postgame

#151
Last night:

13.8 seconds per offensive possession.

Last season:

18.0 seconds per offensive possession.

….

Last night:

22 fast break points

Last season:

5.6 fast break points per game (356th)

….

Last night:

18.3% of points on fast break

Last season:

6.8% of points on fast break (362nd)

….

Last year’s offense was the most efficient in the country, by points per possession.

The staff was totally fearless in completely rebranding it.
Anyone have a theory on the reason behind the strategical shift? Is it due to roster makeup?

We are going from one of the slowest paced teams to hyperdrive? Not a small change🤣

Yes…. guys that play well fast🙂 Wagler did great with keeping a snails pace. Coleman looks like he plays better up tempo …. the game was fast last night and the passing was quick with very little dribbling… interesting change! Fun stuff…. run run run🙂

I'm wondering if the 17 second practice shot clock we employed is geared around our 18 second average play last season.

Tyler is a basketball savant (and you don’t see /s). His understanding of the game is incredible.

Greg from Sleepers Media just said that he will either be running a college team or NBA team in the future.

We better lock him down in the O and B long term, they will be coming for him.
I think Tyler has future NBA head coach written all over him. His understanding of the NBA style of offense is next level.

Shot 78% as a team last year. Not sure the "yearly battle" comment applies.
Yes, 17th in the country:

….

One thing about FT shooting, is that it’s most significant during clutch time.

This was our FT percentage, game by game, in clutch time:

1) Overall, we finished at 77.4% on clutch time free throws — slightly below our season average, but still pretty good (I think).

2) The two Wisconsin games were pretty brutal though, especially that 37.5% on February 10th.

It was deliberate last year. But to say it was a snails pace is certainly an exaggeration.

Obviously, nothing like the balls to the wall approach we’re seeing now, however.

We were between 320-365 in basically every statistic regarding pace.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration. I don’t think it’s a bad thing either.
