This is a break down of each week from the preseason on. Looks like Luke DeCock has even had us ranked once this year.
Exhibit A as to why the AP poll is a joke. But, hey, at least he has us "under consideration" in his little column someone lets him publish somewhere. At best, he is an uninformed boob. But I doubt that is the story here. Would be mildly interesting to look into his history and background as I'm sure there is a reason, but not interesting enough to actually do it.

That website displays which teams each voter places above/below average over however many weeks they’ve been ranked. And interestingly enough, that voter has Illinois ranked 0 spots above average over 52 weeks.
Don’t get his bias towards this year’s team, but doesn’t appear to be bias towards Illinois 🤷‍♂️

Also worth noting that every team ranked below us had at least one voter not rank them, (outside of Clemson, who had a low of 25).

Maybe Kofi ate his baby or something. Seriously, dude apparently has it out for us for some reason.

Edit: Looked it up. He's a native of Evanston. That explains it.

Luke DeCock gets a B. of A. in Diplomatic History from Penn and then becomes a sports reporter? Very strange career path.

I'm a big fan of being a 3 seed. Way better than 4 or 5. I'd almost rather be a 6 seed than a 4 or 5.
It seems like the 1 seeds are dominant when we are in the upper part of the bracket

Honestly I want to be in a bracket that has upsets around us and presents favorable match ups. In March you have to beat good teams

More importantly, we’re #14 in Kenpom & #14 in NET. Keep those numbers up there and keep stacking wins and a top 3 seed is on the table.
To me this is more important than your ranking. I understand all the benefits so we don’t need to discuss if rankings matter but they make no sense. Also just like refs get critiqued so should voters. They should have to justify votes

I don’t understand rankings MSU is 5-5 has a NET in the 40s and get votes because they beat Baylor. Just show you the power of your brand.

I think they are a good team who played a tough schedule but only truly has 1 win other 4 wins were against weaker teams

MSU is an outlier. How many years has Izzo scheduled tough, lost several, and then used that to fuel a great run through the conference or tourney? And if you believe in statistical measures, that is a very, very tough record, James Madison not withstanding. Some of the stats sites: Sagarin has them at 22, schedule 3rd in the country, and 9 of their games as top-25. Torvik has MSU at #7, 5th best offense, and projects them at 14-6 in conf. KenPom has them 23. Their resume is deceptive. That's still a very, very good team and will be tough in the conference race. Izzo is doing what Izzo does (i.e. not worried about Nov/Dec and focused on March).

That is last year's final Sagarin rating. He is not doing it anymore.

Jerry Glanville always left tickets for Elvis...I say Underwood and Whitman always have a ticket for Bill Murray...who at least could show up...unless Glanville knew something none of the rest of us knew.
