I think we would have been #8 or 9 without the turd burger that was the usc game. Get two wins this week especially at #12 and let's get back on track. Anyone else shocked that Wisconsin is ranked?

i was at first...but they do have a couple quad 1s (with a win of #16 NET az), and all 3 of their losses are teams who are like top 15 in NET...no quad 2s or below. Seems a top 25ish resume to me, and sitting top 25 in NET/kenpom

Illinois has lost to 2 ranked teams and 2 duds. Kentucky has lost to 3 duds. I don't think Illinois should be ranked period right now. They are inconsistent and the rankings are some writer's idea of who the best team is in order. They move teams up and down in and out of the polls every week. The team that is playing its best in March will be the best! I guess I can wait until March and find out who is best. Just play ball.

To be fair, a lot of young teams have ups and downs. Was expecting that for road games tho 🙃
Honestly, Saturday was a perfect storm: immediate game following a 39 point beatdown of a team that has had our number, still missing top player for the game against a team (USC) that has been showing life but not closing out opportunities, an early morning Break game, and two big road games on the horizon. I did not expect the Illini to put up the clunker, but I am not as frustrated as some others on this board. It just makes this week much more important in the grand scheme of things. The team responded last year after the clunk January game against Maryland, and I fully expect this year's team will respond as well.

Agreed, further I don't think it's unreasonable to say that USC doesn't stink as much as their given credit for stinking. Eric Musselman came into the program in April and adopted a roster that was fully turned over. Mark Pope had the luxury of coming in and taking over a blue blood (and is a good coach), and John Calipari was preceded in recruiting by his reputation, so had some pretty good guys follow him and come to the team out of the gate. Even so, at this point Arkansas isn't that much better than USC so far through the year.

USC had a totally new coach, totally new players (0.4% minutes returned, 351st in the nation), but are the 35th oldest team in the nation. They do have talent & coaching, and I don't think its a stretch to say they could finish in the top half of the B1G if the eggs they laid early on were cultural/growing pains.

That’s quite a simple bar to be under. One would think the USC loss was equivalent the to beloved losing the national championship game to Lindenwood.
The USC game was a clunker but I am hopeful the loss resulted in a wake up call with continued development that helps us peak as the season progresses. I will take the loss in stride knowing that if this team learns from it, perhaps they don’t win the regular season B1G, but perhaps the B1G tournament and a deep run towards the FF and that elusive Natty.

I should've been a lot more concerned about this type of game with the 2022-2023 team and more folks should be less concerned about this one for that very reason.

That disgusting loss to USC dropped us 6 spots. Tennessee also dropped quite a few for losing.

Oregon is still ranked well above us. #13 to #19. They've only got 2 losses. I have to believe we've played a tougher schedule.
