My guess is that ATM overreacted to their kicking woes and last season and overpaid for one of the best out there. But in doing so, they had less money for other positions.

From an Illinois standpoint, we’ve fared no worse with our kicking situation. At least up to this point.

Considering they are 4-4 as a team, they absolutely overpaid.

Now if they were in CFP contention, that might change the equation slightly. Last season they were in the CFP and had a woeful kicking game. They filled that gap nicely, but likely at the expense of some other area of need.
