A few thoughts:
Illinois has all the attributes of a big time historic program: Our stadium, band and traditions are really superior to most schools. The glaring omission has been a winning program.
I wanted us to win first and foremost so the the story told about the rededication would be perfect. In 1990, the 100th anniversary of our football program we tied for the Big Ten title. So the history was written as it should - with a big Illini win over our historic rival.
Finally, I felt the atmosphere was reminiscent of the last Illini win I witnessed in person - 1983. There was a confidence in the crowd and on the team that we would get this done. But like 1983 it was a low scoring affair that could have gone sideways at any time. Some of our mistakes yesterday were not unlike 1983 (Trudeau fumbled a snap inside the red zone for one thing)
Maybe Sherrone Moore will get fired perpetuating our new tradition of being that loss that breaks the camel’s back
