Cheezcocks. Love that game!
He must HATE Iowa.A guy from my hometown went to Illinois and now works for Iowa State Univ. I'm a bit jealous that he and his family got to go down to Florida and watch both teams win in person.
Great job this year Illini and Cyclones!
"That was bush league, just to be completely honest."Poor, poor baby Beamer. After being at the game and re-watching just now, it is very clear who was bush league today. What a whiney little.....
Great job, Illini! To get a win in that kind of atmosphere was so, so impressive. Do whatever it takes to keep BB here and there will be many more happy nights like this one! Happy New Year, fellow Illini!!!
I just finished watching this PC. You can see through all his BS.OK Beamer.
Okay, real talk … beyond 10-year cumulative records, we are every bit as good of a job. Better instate recruiting, bigger/wealthier alumni base, better facilities and lower expectations. And Bret grew up an Illini fan and already left for a job (Arkansas) after building up something (at Wisconsin), and it didn’t work out.
We’ll pay up, we’ll keep him and Iowa fans everywhere will be reminded that the Illini are back and there’s a new order. They can come waste their time with him if they want, lol.
Thanks for the 411.Illinois was (legally) taking their time sending in defensive subs when USC was trying to go fast. This was getting under Beamer's skin.
There is another situation. On the kickoff where the hootenanny happened, the SC receiver put his arms out straight. This is an almost university signal to tell the receiving team, "I'm not running this out, we'll take the touchback." This is an unofficial signal and not part of the fair catch rules. So the SC receiver did the arm thing, caught the ball, hesitated and then threw the ball across the endzone to the second receiver, who ran it to the 25 (which is where they were going to have the ball if they took the touchback). While there is no rule against this, it is in the family of a fake kneel down.
So, an Illinois player was injured a few plays later and SC had all the momentum. BB came out to check on the player. He turned to the SC sideline and extended his arms. THIS IS JUST MY GUESS. He either was saying, "Just so you know, we're subbing this guy out." Or, in reference to the kickoff, "Nice bleeping play you cheap bleepers."
Either way, Beamer totally lost control of himself and BB lived rent-free in Beamer's head for the rest of the game.
No, a massive thanks to you for providing such a well-run outlet for us Illini fans.A massive thanks to everyone for following the Cheez-It Cirtus Bowl here, it was the most active game thread in regulation in the history of this site! Happy New Year's & GO ILLINI!!![]()

It feels steady now, doesn’t it? I’m honestly unsure how to feel after years of PTSD. Our sports programs are now top-notch, and we’ve got a 10-win football team. Despite all the criticisms I’ve made throughout the year, I have to admit that Bret is an exceptional coach, and the coaching staff under him is even more impressive. Every part of the football team has shown improvement (except for the punter). I’m incredibly proud of the entire program and proud to be an Illini. Happy New Year, everyone. I – L – L!Healthiest the Illini football/basketball combo has been since…??
Has to be the 1980s. I’m sure people loved ~2001, but I feel like it didn’t feel as stable.
Dark Bret wasn't taunting... I thought he was just doing the Alma Mater thing. But yeah, dick move by the SC kick returner to give himself up, take a few steps, and then lateral the ball. That's not kewl. Then you get called on not being kewl and start dropping f-bombs on tv? Not what I'd call a good role model to all those young Gamecocks. I'm glad Dark Bret stood up for his players and called them on it. I'm even happier we backed up the $#!@ talking and smirking with a win. You back that up and your aces with me. Now a t-shirt (photoshoppers do your thing) with Bret as the copper alma mater with his arms out? That'd be a thing.I love Bret Bielema.
I love Josh Whitman.
I want a T shirt with a picture of Bret standing with his arms outstretched in that horrible “taunting” stance.
He's making excuses and is butt hurt, because we kicked them in the Game Cocks+Poor, poor baby Beamer. After being at the game and re-watching just now, it is very clear who was bush league today. What a whiney little.....

pretty good JC Davis.
Does Dark Bert have a dark passenger? If so, Dexter's is much betterDark Bret wasn't taunting... I thought he was just doing the Alma Mater thing. This has probably been addressed, but this is not true. The broadcasters got it wrong (not a big shock there). They addressed this on the B1G show. If you watch the play, we kick and their man in the endzone makes the T-sign to signal he's out of the play. Their player catches the ball, stands there as Illinois players slow up, takes a step or two, and then laterals the ball in the endzone. Trick play. They then run the ball up the opposite sideline. Dirty ball. Illini player injured on the play. Coach B walks out across the field like football Jeebus with his arms out in a T. Everyone takes it as taunting for substitution but it's the signal for the kick returner giving himself up. Broadcasters were clueless. Shane goes rabid dropping f-bombs on national broadcast (great role model there Shane). So the G-cocks are all riled up because Dark Bret calls them out for dirty ball. Bret did it, he's proud he did it, and I'm pretty sure he'd 100% do it again. Not kewl Shane. Not kewl. If you watch the play again it makes more sense. When Bielema came on the field to check on an injured Illini player near the SC bench, he gave the substitution signal in Beamer's direction. He knew that Beamer was mad, and Bielema wound him up.
Given how Beamer was acting all game long, I don't really have a lot of sympathy.
Looked like a block in the back in the endzone also. For those who haven't seen the T-pose kickoff 'trick' play, or would like to see it again, there is currently a full game broadcast on youtube (which will probably get removed at some point soon).
This link is queued up to a couple of seconds before the kickoff.
Interesting. Do you have a link to a contract or article that mentions that?
I found two of Bret’s contracts online, but neither give the details on the penalty he pays if he resigns (they also don’t mention the “no B1G school” clause)
I’d guess Whitman will try to work out another extension in the next month or so to get Bret north of $7-7.25M in salary.
