Been almost a week... still gives me chills

I'll add this - my reactions to this play and Rocky Harvey's run at Michigan started the same, then veered wildly.

Rocky's run - First "GO GO GO!!" then realizing Illinois was up with Michigan having no timeouts left. "GET DOWN GET DOWN GET DOWN!!"

McCray's run - " GO GO GO GO ", followed by "GET TO THE HOUSE!! GET IN THERE!!" since I knew a TD made it a two-score game.

But in any case, two of the greatest memories of my Illini football fandom.

in real time that day, I'll admit to being simultaneously mixed about him

sliding and protecting the ball at midfield
vs
trying to go all the way

Beamer brought this on himself.

I got an orange short sleeve with score on it. Long sleeve blue with the logo of the cheese it bowl. Kids got them for me.

That game ended with much more drama than it needed to.

1. Illinois up one, Rocky bursts free. Dropping down seals the victory. Scoring a TD gives Michigan a chance, down eight. Rocky scores.

2. Illinois intercepts a pass on the 2 yard line but fumbles into the end zone for a safety.

3. Illinois has to survive the kickoff and one last Hail Mary throw with Michigan suddenly having a chance to WIN it. 😳

To go from sealed victory to possible tie to possible loss so quickly was mind blowing.

So I’m aboard ship in the Caribbean, wearing O&B of course, and a guy even older than I am (not that hard to do on Viking) jovially says to me “I don’t like what your guys did to my Gamecocks.” A couple of sentences into conversation he says something about Bret, so I explained what happened. And of course he hadn’t heard that before.

Just one South Carolina fan at a time and maybe the word will get around.

Good for you. Illini nation is lucky to have soldiers like you on the front lines. But setting them straight is just phase one. Phase two is teaching them all to read. We’re ALL gonna really need to roll up our sleeves on this one.

I was at dinner a few nights ago at a table full of mostly gamecock fans. The only person who knew the actual story was a Clemson fan

I live in Texas but my boss and Corporate office is located in NW Arkansas (no, not Wal-Mart.) I've spoken to several Hog fans who watched the game and all of that unfold and they didn't know what really happened and what Bret was doing. They still thought it was a taunt but when I explained it, they got it and understood. They had some of the same sentiments we do about Beamer.
