The defense has stepped up big time the last two games. They won the game today. Didn’t play that well on offense and had some really bad calls go against us, but found a way to win. On to next week in Madison.

I just want to say that the officials were just as bad as the announcer/production. It’s like FS1 only had 2-3 talking points on each team. Did you know Brett’s daughter dressed as Luke for Halloween? Or that the Terps QB can run…or that Luke only had 88 yard rushing so far in the season. Stop being lazy, people!

A win is a win is a win. Realizing that outside of the Indiana game, this team is basically identical to last season’s team. Have to have a huge offseason to take that next step.

Wisky and the Kitties will not be pushovers. Finish strong!!
This team is so much better than last year’s team.

This year’s team is currently ranked #23 in SP+ and finished last year in the mid 30s.

Last year’s team beat Kansas at home by 6. This year’s team beat Duke on the road by 26.

Last year’s team beat Purdue at home by 1 in overtime. This year’s team beat Purdue by 16 on the road.

Last year’s team needed a last second touchdown to beat Rutgers. This year’s team beat Rutger’s by 22.

Last year’s team finished the regular season without a single win over a team who finished the year ranked. This year’s team beat USC who is one win away from making the CFP.

If we had last year’s schedule this year, we make the CFP.

Even this ho-hum “win is a win” win was an 18 point win against a team in the 60s in the advanced metrics.

How about those Illini. Forced to listen to the game instead of watching. Sounded pretty workman like by the offense and sounds like the defense played pretty well.

Unless it's been changed recently, they are low paid part-time volunteers who have regular day jobs... Like Insurance sales, or washing machine mechanics...

Could be argued that Maryland helped them quite a bit with dropped touchdown passes and other drops as well. The D was bad with the exception of a few series where we actually tried to bring some pressure and sped up the QB and tipped some passes. I will give them credit for that, but it has to be consistent. You can't let a team take the ball at the 1 and drive 98 yards with little resistance with the game still inexplicably on the line. They let us off the hook by dropping not one, but two wide open TD passes at the end of that drive.

Thought they played so much better against Rutgers.

The Terps were terrible today. Even a mediocre performance by the Illini was enough to bury them, which shows how far our program has progressed under Coach B. We have plenty to work on in order to finish strong, as Wisconsin and Northwestern will both put up a tougher fight than Maryland did today. Let's go out there and win both of these remaining B10 games, as well as a bowl game, and bask in the joys of another very successful season.

This win also put him back over .500 in the Big 10 through 43 games.

We had 2 over .500 seasons in 25 years before he was hired.

Maryland averages 24 points per game. Illinois holds them to 6, their lowest point output of the year.

Illinois fans, “the defense played bad”.

IIRC MD had only two long drives for the entire game and we held them to only 6 points. That's pretty good in my book. Sure they had some drops, but they also had some really great catches.

I mean I agree generally but this team also suffered 1 of the worst losses in a ranked game this season against a ranked opponent that Indiana blew the doors off.i mean you cant be made at losing to osu with our talent compared to there's but its understandable to be frustrated in how we lost that game in the mental mistakes. But I got to say the game that truly has me wondering how good this team is was at Washington where the only time they punted the whole game was when there undefended player dropped a good pass.to me that Washington game still lingers large or at least it does to me especially considering we had a by week to prep for them.yea we have blitzed slightly more since then but our dbs our still giving up 10 yards at the line of scrimmage and slowing down a Rutgers and especially a Maryland team that's given up on there season doesn't make me believe in this defense. I love luke and our offense is definitely better but what if its a rainy or windy day when were facing a quality opponent do you have that much faith in our run game and offensive line because I dont.Im not trying to be negative I know its coming off that way but just trying to speak the truth.i guess we will find out if were better come bowl season

Not the most thrilling Illini victory , but a win is a win.........reminds me of the MBB game victory last night over colgate....
Brian B. just described it as a professional win doing what was necessary for the W.......

I really really liked the way Luke and Feagin ran the ball today ......Valentine too , but Luke had some long runs on the bootleg and Feagin ran like he should with his head lowered and shoulder pads ready to inflict severe punishment on any defender in his way.........I wish we had just used Feagin for all 3 rushes on that last 1st and goal at the twerps 1 yd line.......oh well , we won in spite of another embarrassing performance by the zebra's.........my opinion of any officials performance in any sporting event is just an opinion and I respect all posters opinion's even if they differ from mine......that same respect should be given to all other posters here on this board......it IS a board for discussion of members opinions and belief's..........some here might need to revisit that stance and it could be more enjoyable for everyone here.........I've been trying to minimize my negative opinions on how refs perform but daggnabitt these striped shirts keep screwing up over and over.........should I just gloss over those stupid calls ?????

sorry , I just can't seem to do that........anyway , we won and are now 7-3 for the season and 4-3 in the B$G......

I highly recommend getting the Varsity app. Sync the game (football and basketball) with the radio broadcast. Barnhart is a pro.
