Back In Robinson!
Well I'm glad we won...and I hope I'm wrong but I fear that could be the last W of the year

Well we do have Michigan St. Who seems to have lost 3 - 4 players today while being g behind in the 4th quarter at home so North Western. So maybe some hope of a Web. :D

I feel much worse after this game than I did after the Nebraska game. Not too impressive of a game.

Have to remember that we are playing a ton of young guys right so that hopefully they can get get their growing pains and mental mistakes out now and be ready to contribute to a winner in a couple years like Kevin Mitchell, Harrison, J leman, britt Miller etc circa 2007

What makes NU so successful over the last 20 years? Some high, plenty of solid/bowl seasons without many lows. The main thing I can think of is only 3 coaches who are from the same coaching tree (might be an assumption on my part). They always seem to recruit below Illinois, their facilities aren't as good, and Illinois sends more players to the NFL.

Even when they have lost over the last 20 years they are really competitive losses against good teams.

Scheduling. Up until they had Stanford these past two years they always played four nobodies, easy wins in nonconference. Under the old schedule that meant only needing two wins in conference. Our awful scheduling has cost us at least two bowl games recently. Last year and 2008.

I just finished watching the game on TiVo (fortunately, I got to watch the Clemson victory over NC State in person).

ILL/RUTG: Perhaps stating the obvious, I felt like I was watching two really weak teams, and two power 5 QB's who can't throw. Most notably, our RB's look tiny. Can they possibly rush for 150 yards next weekend? I also agree with the earlier poster --- Rutgers pretty much ran all over us. On the positive side, I guess we bent but didn't break. And I'll be kind and attribute the 5 turnovers to Lovie's coaching. Also love the idea of playing the younger guys the rest of the way. Would like to see George get some snaps once MICH gets a four touchdown lead next week.....or maybe earlier in the game in passing situations.

If you look at your depth chart. The RS Freshman and true freshman that are all playing. Heck even the sophomores and RS Soph. We have a lot of youth playing.

Next year. Our "sophomore" class is going to be a big one.

And next years team will be better because some of the lumps we are taking now. Once our bowl chance realistically went away this is the smart play

One of the ugliest games I've ever seen. If Rutgers hadn't had so many turnovers this one could have been a nail-biter. We still get way too many penalties and don't look like a team that executes. Michigan will likely put up 50+ on us.

Post Game Press Conference

Why was Lovie so unhappy during the post game press conference? I want to call it "crabby" as well.

I gotta guess that it is just now becoming clear just how big a project we are....

This is important. I love that Movie and staff have the guts and forsight to play guys on their skill, desire and potential. We'll see TH e payoff in about two years.

I'm sure Lovie and the coaches knew what they were getting into. It is dawning on us fans how far we have to go.

Yeah. Hate that I'm emotionally attached lol. I know things will get better, just a matter of how long. Don't know how many more 3-9 seasons I can take. I honestly don't even think I'll be satisfied with going 7-5 after the decade we've had....

lol, I think most of us would be ecstatic to be going 7-5 after this past decade..... :thumb:

No kidding. It stinks that we're going to be waiting around through yet another attempt at a rebuild, especially at a time when we haven't had any basketball success to tide us over, either. It's been a loooong time since we as Fighting Illini fans have had anything to brag about.

For the Illini and us fans, each conference win is so precious I'm not going to get hung up on style points. But after Illinois recovered the muffed punt early in the game and didn't convert, if Rutgers doesn't fumble inside the ten on their next drive and scores a td instead, that game could have gotten ugly in a hurry.

Lovie seems to have turned a new page in his press conferences. It seems like he and his coaches are a lot more forthcoming than he was when he was coaching the Bears. I like it.
