Illinois 30, Toledo 28 Postgame

Like is a good qb only one bad throw into triple coverage

Practice needs to be about discipline. We should have won by 2 scores if not 3 if you take away the dumb mistakes

Our team responded well at the end of the half not kicking a FG which I would have in a close game and then them driving. Toledo is a good team and I will be interested to see how they do
We actually had them by the ropes in the 4th quarter and could’ve beaten them by 2 or 3 TD’s but our D gave it right back. 🤷‍♂️

Heading into the season, this game scared me the most. So happy to come away with a victory.

Without that pick 6, we may have withered into the Illinois of old, such a timely play.

Would like to see the running game be more consistent, but once we cut down on the penalties, we looked like a different football team.

Now how will we look on Friday?

I'll tell you what, so very little went as planned today, but we left with a win. That's what we had to do. The good news is that our lines were so bad this game, I can't imagine them coming out like this next week. They're going to get embarrassed in the film review. And frankly, that might translate to much more success against Kansas.

Also, Luke Altmyer may be the best QB we've had since Kittner. If the vaunted D line we have actually decides to play like it this season, there is no question we can win a lot of games this year. But if we play stupid, undisciplined, no jump defense like we did today, being gifted a phenomenal qb will mean nothing.

I'm really happy we won this one, but man... A lot of people on the team including our DC need to look in the mirror and say not effing good enough.

That win was ugly enough to make a freight train take a dirt road. Just enough key plays to pull it out. The defense needs to quit reading their headlines and get down to fixing all the things that are wrong with our front seven. The talent is there, but playing as a unit, with intensity, is way off. I think they figure it out though, because I still believe in Coach B and staff.
