Illinois 31, Michigan State 27 POSTGAME

Why is "Uncle" Luke in our locker room postgame? Not sure I'm on board with that.

Uncle Luke was a founding member of 2 Live Crew, a Miami rap institution that was Tipper Gore's apocalyptic nightmare of moral depravity who later went on to become a high school football coach. 2 Live Crew adopted the whole 'The U' thing in Miami and were big time boosters, in every sense of the word. The fact that he came to Champaign, IL to see Thad Ward is proof of Thad's value as a recruiter.

I do agree with the comments about the play calling. Hard to second guess most of them. Very refreshing after the Cubit offenses. The best we've seen since Locksley.

Best game in a long time! Wanted to turn off the ESPN audio and listen to the radio but husband didn't like the delay. INSTEAD I just yelled "shut up" every so often like the grown woman I am . The announcer actually said "we " when speaking of MSU toward the end and didn't even call the last touchdown, I believe. Going on and on about poor MSU. Ugh.

Huge win, I'm curious to see what JGJ can do the rest of the season. I know he's not what McGee wants on offense but I'm rooting so hard for this kid

Everyone keeps say this about JG that he isn't what McGee wants, I totally disagree I think he is just what he wants. they wat to run a more pro offence and JG fits it perfect the more he gets to play the better he will get. He can run when he needs to he isn't scared to get hit, If we can get MD back fully healthy next year and add some more really good WR and if our OL can get biger and stronger I have no prob what so ever with JG being our QB for the next 3 years

He was 13-29 for 140 yards...not taking anything away from the kid and the comeback he led today but if JG is our quarterback the next 3 years we won't win as many games as we should.

That was the best coached and organized performance by an Illini team in a long time. Just looked competent across all phases for most of the game. Yes MSU shots themselves in the foot a few times but Illini capitalized on everything. 11/5/16 may be looked back on in a few years as the day something really started to change on the field in Champaign.

Could have fooled me given the types of players they're recruiting at QB.

I tend to agree. The pass to Mays was a thing of beauty and I liked the way he could actually scramble in the pocket and extend plays, but he was extremely inaccurate for the entire game.

We need long and well executed drives. We weren't getting that AT ALL in the first half until the last drive. Michigan St. had the ball for 75% of the game. Thankfully MSU made a lot of stupid penalties and mistakes while Illinois did not.

George didn't throw any interceptions and didn't make any game killing turnovers. He did exactly what we needed a backup QB to do.

Watson

I have not been a fan of Watson playing a lot. I have to say he played well yesterday. Made some nice plays when needed. I really like Patrick Nelson also.

That was one untalented team beating another untalented team...when was the last time we were on the right end of that equation?!?!

And imagine if we had a little talent!!!

Remember when Juice started back in 2006, I think it was against Iowa. He had a rough start, I mean it was like he couldn't make a pass at all, however he got better. Hopefully, JGJ will get better but you gotta be optimistic.

According to recruiting rankings, that was one untalented team beating one talented team.

I agree. Here are the rankings for the classes of 2012 through 2016 from the 247 composite scores. These are redshirt seniors through this year's freshman. Conference ranking is first and National ranking is in parenthesis.

MSU
2012: 5 (33) Four 4* Recruits
2013: 5 (35) Four 4* Recruits
2014: 4 (25) One 5* Recruit/Three 4* Recruits
2015: 3 (22) Five 4* Recruits
2016: 3 (17) Ten 4* Recruits

UI
2012: 13 (64)
2013: 9 (49) One 4* Recruit
2014: 14 (72)
2015: 7 (48) Two 4* Recruits
2016: 13 (72)

One team is definitely more talented than the other team and that team lost. Coaching/home field advantage/scheme can really level the playing field.

Good point.

RS-freshman QB, starts the season 3rd on the depth chart, Dudek out, Turner out and he leads a 4th quarter comeback victory over MSU and some people are still going to whine? :hand:

Great win, effort and coaching all around for the Illini.

Go Illini!

I could not be more impressed with Kendrick Foster. The guy has talent and play making ability. He seems to have a great attitude. The guy is a winner. And wow the cuts he makes!

Next year you get a healthy Dudek (hopefully), an improved Mays, freshman Smalling, and Green. That's a pretty good group to work with at WR. George made some good throws yesterday and all you can ask for is improvement over the next few games.

Forgot Turner!

I doubt Green ends up here. Even without him, Next year's WR corps will be a huge upgrade. Dudek, Turner, and Smalling with depth from Mays, Thieman, Mcgriff, Holcombe, Cain, etc

Love me some Foster. Can you imagine the type of numbers he could put up if we had a passing attack? So glad that he didn't transfer.

Thanks for looking up the numbers. Also, I missed the game yesterday but watched it on replay on ESPN3 last night, and noticed that there were multiple mentions of all the of injuries and attrition that MSU had faced, not as much with the significant injuries that Lovie and Co. have had to deal with.

Anytime you get a victory over a B1G team with a third string qb and you're not OSU or scUM, it is a job very well done.
