OK, watching the game again today and I have a question concerning the penalty against Kramer. Even though the officials correctly determined that it was not targeting, how did they come to the "late hit" conclusion? The whistle had not been blown and the player was not on the ground yet. While I would not change anything that might affect the outcome (butterfly affect), this was a head scratcher for me.

I said it when we hired Lovie and now that we are winning I'll repeat it again. Best thing about Lovie is he will make your son a good player but also a better person. The team was happy about the win today, the biggest emotion they showed was for the coach. Parents of recruits take note that your son is going to get a good education, grow as a man and play football if you let him play for Lovie.

I also thought the late hit flag was sketchy. It looks worse when you view it in slow mo, but so does 99% of footballs.

If anything Kramer was trying to pull up slightly and trying to avoid piling on.

Previous play BL had a qb run and it looked like he was shaken up on the play....no stoppage for injury. Think it was 3rd down on INT but not sure. Was hoping for a longer passing play, thought BL could make a bad decision/throw if his head wasn’t right, and he did.

I think the bigger issue there was the down and distance. It was 3rd and 10, he doesn’t want to throw the underneath route there and come up short so he tries to force the out despite the coverage. The ball wasn’t close either but that’s a side note.

Sometimes, kids try too hard and beat themselves. Everyone knows we’ve been there, Lewerke was there yesterday. Take your 6-7 yards (Assuming your WR can’t make a play) and punt the ball, that’s all you do there.

I have watched Lovie on the sidelines back when he was DC for the Rams and have followed his career with Tampa and Chicago, but this is the first time that i believe he is truely happy we need to appreciate the fact that we have a coach that loves this university and loves these kids. THIS MAN ABSOLUTELY LOVES TO TEACH AND NEEDS TO BE AROUND YOUNG MEN, WHAT A ROLE MODEL!

That gets called against the D 95% of the time they actually see it - especially that close to the endzone. Going down the field on longer routes the handchecking and jostling is a different thing as it usually ends before the ball gets there. Plus he also put a hand in his chest right before the ball got there (pretty close tho).
He had his hand gripping the shoulder pad of the Illini player that’s probably why it got called.

I agree. I think it could have gone either way, and these loser of the call would have a fair gripe.

however the replay did clearly show he pulled the shoulder pad down, not allowing reams to extend for the catch.
That was pass interference when the Illini player was held, but then the MSU player slapped the receiver in the face mask as the ball was sailing over. MSU has no basis for complaining about this obvious pass interference. Sour grapes.

Did anyone mention MSU could have run the clock out with substitutions at the end of the game? I wasn't here for the game thread.

Just read the game thread back starting a bit before halftime...such fun! My kids say they've never seen me so excited about the Illini after the final TD (admittedly there's been a lot of grumbling at the TV over recent years)....

The McCourt missed extra point actually helped us at the end. We may have just kicked a FG to send it to overtime if we were down by three.

Just incredible in so many ways. Now Fitzee can't end our season.
I thought that as well. Our backs were against the wall and we had to win it all NOW. And we did.

The single coverage on Bebe on 4th and 16 was brutal.
They could double team him. Just throw it in the vicinity, as long as it's high, and he's going to out reach and out jump anyone. What's his catch/touchdown percentage now? And Bhebhe is hard to bring down once he comes down with the ball. The other thing about double teaming Bhebhe is that it leaves someone else uncovered, like Barker in the endzone with five seconds left.

I remember this. You weren't/aren't wrong. I like our program. Linebacker U needs some young talent injected in bad way. Hope it comes.

I was very surprised to not see Cooper without both Hansen and Eifler. Is he just not good enough? Is he just planning to redshirt? Anyone know what's going on with him?

Someone earlier said he was sick and didn’t practice this week. I was pretty baffled by that as well, the explanation brings a little clarity.

What did you think of Degroot. Could he contribute at safety or linebacker in the future?

LOL, might need to give me a day to rewatch it. Difficult to analyze things schematically when you’re losing your mind.

Tolson did not have a day to remember, however. I don’t think he knows the calls.
