We are playing a very soft zone this year. Last year we ran man coverage almost exclusively
I'm far more the type to watch for entertainment than to dissect the game, but it appears we're playing a fair amount of zone this year. Feels like we played more man in the past. I'm assuming they don't think they have the athletes to play man so they try to hide it with zone. I was going a little nuts in the USC game watching their QB just pick apart our zone. A couple of underthrows that led to INTs is what saved us in that game.FWIW, Defense has two interceptions this year. Last year at this time they had seven and finished the season with twelve.
Don't forget a couple fortuitous fumbles falling our way!Watching the game now. Defense has definite issues. Blown coverages, poor angles, over pursuit. Seems like Jacas is not being used properly. Just an underachieving defense with a coordinator not making any timely adjustments.
Offense will have to be in a shootout with OSU for a chance for us to win.
Punched out, not fumbled. Big difference.Don't forget a couple fortuitous fumbles falling our way!

Besides for X we have everyone back from last year but he is a big loss. We’ve played a lot of dynamic QBs thud year and we’ve tried to limit explosive plays.
It was crazy Purdue had good coverage twice against us and Luke threw perfect balls to Dixons and Beatty to negate that. I can only recall two balls that weren't perfectly on the money and they were still both caught.
Multiple things can be true at the same time. The defense does have some injuries to key players. No one is denying that. But the defense is still thin and has issues schematically.Without our experienced secondary they did thier best! It's not an excuse. Its a fact.. It's about the damn scoreboard and the final score. When you are up 19pts with 18 or so minutes left you bend don't break. Especailly with half your starting DBs hurt or out. It’s not an excuse. Its a fact we won the last 9 of our last 10 games! The last 3 we have been without most of our starting DBs! It does impact and it does change how we defend and call our defenses. You missed your calling. Apply to replace Henry and Brett. If you don't think that impacts the game and expectations and schemes don't change you are wrong.
Luke only had three incompletions for the game -A little nitpicky but he underthrew a couple of the WIDE open deep balls. The one to Hollins especially could have been a td if he put in front for him to run under instead of having to wait for it. The ones in coverage were absolutely drop in the bucket throws.
Beatty, Jacas, and Luke are almost always at or near the top on these things. Clearly our superstars.
I think the OP was saying the completion to Hollins could have been a TD instead of just a long gain if Hollins didn't had to slow down to catch it.Luke only had three incompletions for the game -
- a pass to Bowick at 0:18 of the first quarter from the Purdue 23
- a short pass to Valentine from the IL 30 at 8:56 of the 3rd Qtr
- a pass to Bowick from the IL 45 at 10:31 of the 4th qtr
He did have one or two incompletions where the play was wiped out by penalty, but not sure what you were seeing . . .

Jacas non-believers in shambles.
Surprised Clarke didn't show up on this list, thought as far as the secondary went he had a solid game for us and was making plays.
Don't remember the first... but the second was a blatant drop. The third was a great throw - right between the numbrs - but into tight coverage.Luke only had three incompletions for the game -

Henry isn’t going anywhereNot just your opinion.
We can do emphatically better than Aaron Henry and Bart Miller.
Mark my words OSU is the last game Henry has the defensive headset. Bret has hinted at Henry needing to be better after both the Indiana game and this game.
We have anything close to a repeat of Indiana and. At the bye I anticipate the headset goes to Jamo or literally anyone else.
Henry’s last stand, put together a game plan ala Michigan 2024 or give it up. There is no way in hell he is the best we can do.
