we should be #3. we didn't get blown out like arizona did
I mean that is a bit of an overreaction to one single game.

Arizona went 36-3 for the season (beat UCONN who we lost to twice), Duke went 35-3 (beat Michigan), and Illinois went 28-9.

As much as it pains me to say it, we should, objectively, be behind both Arizona and Duke when you look at the full body of work for the schedule.

My first reaction to this poll was frustration, but let’s be honest most fans including casual ones are logical enough to conclude that the teams in the final four are the best 4 teams. No one is going to look at this media poll and think worse of Illinois’s season.

Nothing more worthless than a postseason poll in a sport where they have a postseason tournament.

Duke went 25-3 in Q1/Q2 games (19-3 in Q1!). We went 15-9 in Q1/Q2 (10-9 in Q1).

In no world does one extra win in the NCAAT mean we had a better season / were a better team than Duke. Ya’ll nuts.
If the resumes were reversed do you think Duke is 5 or top 4?

I agree with you but then by that logic Iowa and Tennessee shouldn’t have jumped 11 spots because of their NCAA run

A Final Four run and a final ranking in the top 5, validating that the tournament run was not an anomaly...

Yes, we have both of those things. #5 is a top 5 ranking.

I agree that a final #5 ranking is respect. But, if UConn gets a 2 because they were in the finals, then Illinois deserves 4 for being in the Final Four. And I really don't give a !!!! about the AP poll.

That's not a logical conclusion at all. Are you going to suggest that NC State was one of the best 4 teams when they made their Final Four a couple years back? They had a good run and they were playing really well at the right time, absolutely. They were also only in the tournament because they won their conference tournament. There's clearly more to it than "Final Four = best 4 teams."

We had a great run, but I can absolutely see why a non-Final Four team like Duke was ranked ahead of us in the final poll.

We played 11 of the final AP top25. I love this.
We finished the season playing 18 of 37 games against the top 40 (includes the 15 teams receiving votes). We went 9-9 in those games. That accounts for all 9 of our losses. We were tied with 1 second to go in 5 of those 18 games. We lost all 5. Meaning 5 of our 9 losses were in overtime or on buzzer beaters. We went 19-0 against teams outside of the top 40 with an average margin of victory of more than 20 points.

5 is full of respect. Next up, open the checkbook and keep all our players. Get 'em all back and it's conceivable we're #1.
