In your scenario, Illini kick extra point to go up 13 with 5 minutes to play. Purdue then scores 14 to go up 1 with 40 seconds to play. If we lose in that scenario (which is likely) then you say “why kick meaningless extra point to go up 13 and lose by 1”
Would the last 0:46 Illini drive have played out differently whether it was 43-40 or 42-41 when it started?

Fun observation from the game - Reggie Love spent a lot of time wearing (what looked like) a headset while standing on the end of the sideline during Illini offensive drives, looking directly at our play callers.
This right here.

A lot of the stuff coming out of PU feels like such insecure “little brother syndrome”

Bret totally knew Walters was going to go for two at the end and he was ready for it and we blew them up

Fresno state doing for to bc they have the chance to beat a B1G on the road makes sense. PU doing it just feels well kinda desperate.

It was about zero degrees on an early December game. Fresno State just wanted to get back to Fresno as quick as they could.

39 rushes for 177 yards, 4.5 ypc, not world beating but not awful. Laughery and Valentine got nothing going but Mccray was solid finding some spaces to get through.
Well, to be fair, 10 attempts and 60 yards came from Altmyer, and 2 attempt and 10 yards came from Bryant.

When we ran plays designed for running with our backs, we averaged 3.96 ypc. I don't feel like that's all too great.

Our recovered kickoff counts as an on-sides kick, doesn't it? I bet Purdue fans view the one that we recovered as more awful than we view the traditional one that they recovered. (I kinda felt for them after ours: that was something that--in years past--we would do.) Btw, when was the last time EACH TEAM successfully recovered an onsides kick? Or that each team had a 100% success rate on onsides kicks?

I am certainly as guilty as many here (maybe more than many) of overreacting in the game thread (a place I desperately try to stay away from during games). Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa (credit: Jimmy Buffett, appropriately from the song "Fruitcakes").

However, I'd like to point out that it has been said many, many, many, times on Loyalty that there is no such thing as a "good" loss. Ergo, there can be no such thing as a "bad" win. If a "bad" win does not exist, this must therefore be considered a good win.

5-1 baby, 97% of us would have taken that at the beginning of the season in a heartbeat. Now let's heal up, prepare and kick the living daylights out of ScUM next week!

In an odd way, the defensive side of the game kinda reminded me of the 2011 Ohio State game. OSY was 1 of 4 passing, but it wasn't because (as some people thought afterwards) they never needed to pass. They tried to pass plenty, but the coverage was good and their qb keep scrambling and getting frustratingly good gains. (Big difference here of course was that we couldn't stop Purdue's regular running game either.)

Well that was easy! We had it all the way! I will say they like to make it interesting.

This was a troubling victory. Have the same feeling when the Cubs blew a big lead in the WS.

Walters is a winner, his offense play calling gave our DC issues. He is welcomed back if the time ever comes IMHO.

We are 5-1 that is unexpected and awesome. Need to win the ones we are expected to and not play with our food.

Altmeyer is statistically one of the best QBs we ever had. His QB rating, completion rate and yards/catch is top 1-3.
Didn’t realize Walters calls the offensive plays.

We are definitely not a top 25 team.
We were going into the game and we are coming out of the game. Are we one of best 25 teams in country? Maybe not. But then again the polls — especially when it comes to anything lower than 10 or 15 — aren’t really about “best.”

On Love watching our signals while wearing a headset, would we really not have changed those up enough that he’d be able to tell them anything meaningful? It didn’t feel like we struggled to move the ball? Maybe more of an attempted psy op than anything useful?

Unrelated, but can somebody explain the offensive pass interference on the 2pt conversion? Don’t recall ever seeing that called against an O-linemen and the replay didn’t answer any questions for me.

So what was all the blabbing about the analyst by the commentators yesterday? Some fine reporting there.
i dunno, thought they had some really good insights on how well our DC, Kevin Kane, was calling our defense
