Fun game to watch today. Need to build on it. In fact, I think I'll watch it again!

If we don't play well, then Lovie isn't doing fine.

Three good performances might end up with us 0-3, but what matters is that we go out and give good performances.

That was night and day from every single other game this year today. A pulse, thank god, a pulse.

All that matters to me is wins and losses. We were predicted by many to win 3 games. We are at 4 wins. We beat the only other team that is in a comparable place to us in the big ten. And we beat them bad. Obviously next year we will be expected to win 6 games. But the expectations of this season, to me, are surpassed

Definitely progress has been made. Hard to explain the difference from last week, Md certainly not a juggernaut. Could have turned it off early with a victory in hand against a BIG team, when was the last time that happened?

GO ILLINI!

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought they called it a catch and fumble and then overturned it upon review.

Correct on the field it was ruled a catch, but during review they determined he never had possession due to a slight bobble; highly judgmental IMO.

I can't remember the last time I had that much fun at an Illinois game. I haven't been this shocked by an outcome since the Minnesota game in 2014.

I thought this was a dead team but that win was anything but fluky. Just a thorough dismantling of a team that was favored to beat us by 10 points. Not sure if that says more about us than Minnesota but that team, while inexperienced, definitely has talent.

If this defense can just stop being the worst defense in the B1G then I can see this team getting to a minor bowl game next year. I said the exact same thing last year about this offense and Rod Smith was clearly a fantastic hire.

What a great job by the OL, Corbin, Brown, Bush and Stampley. Allegretti was especially impressive and it looked like he was playing on another level. You could see how much this game meant to him.

The defense did about as well as you could possibly expect them to do at this point given all that is going on with this program, especially after they gave up the first two touchdowns. It was nice to see them get some pressure on the QB, Morgan, who did not look very good. Not sure why they kept bringing in Green for the wildcat but that wasn't very effective either.

Just keep it competitive in the final three games. 4 wins was what I was hoping for when the season started but the road getting there has been bumpy to say the least.

Trying not to get so elevated on this win. Minny had their back-up QB who was their version of our QB from last year (Chyce??). Who was a run first QB, with limited running ability and limited throwing ability. That being said every player raised their game, especially the O and D lines. WR need to catch the balls in the bread basket. This leads me to my next point.

XMas Wish list- A JUCO/Transfer WR who can stretch the field ala Geromino Allison. Smalling is solid and so are some of the other WR, but we need height/speed.
Another Juco/Transfer LB who has all the P5 abilities to go along with the "smarts"
See above but for Safeties

I think next year we will have the size at the D line to stop the run. We should be deeper and bigger at DT. We already have that on the O line, they just need to get smarter. We should be good at QB (Rivers, Williams) RB (Corbin, Epstein, D Brown, etc...), Punt/PK should be solid again. Our CBs should be improved with Beason, Hobbs.

Hopefully we don't lose anybody, likely Olidipo is gone. Roundtree, Gay, Woods, Milan, Carney and others should be a solid core. Possibly a transfer would help on the DT line.

Just hoping for no more dumb things from our core players, losing B Williams and the TE hurt. Can't have those setbacks as we try to build.

We’ve stayed loyal and invested since Mike White. We had such high hopes for Lovie and were willing to be patient and give him time to rebuild. After the last three losses, especially the Maryand game, we were actually talking about giving up our season tickets after 34 straight years. It’s so hard to keep paying so much money to watch bad football. Yesterday stopped that talk. We had so much fun watching improved, good football, and our hope is restored. :illinois:

I honestly felt the same way. Wasn't even all that excited to go to this game but it ended up being quite fun.

I remember before the 2014 Minnesota game a woman that has sit in front of me for years turned around and said "I want to see a win" and I just mumbled "Well, we'll see Minnesota win". They were ranked and we had just lost to Purdue and Lunt was out.

These wins against Minnesota are VERY satisfying to me. Two of the most painful losses I have been to were the 2008 and 2010 Minnesota games. Their fans even started chanting "overrated" after the 2008 win. Of course the 2011 game ended Zook's tenure here.

Do whatever you have to do to make this defense remotely competent and we can get to 6 wins next year. This offense was just as hopeless and dreadful last year. If it means graduate transfers or JUCO reaches like Stampley then do it. We have to win next year.

Back in the game thread, commentor illini80 said that he tried to record the game and it did not record for him. I also put the game on record and directv did not record it. Just curious if anybody else had the same result.

Well, it was called a catch, and subsequent fumble sooo...

They had no business overturning that, no evidence. Personally, I don’t think he bobbled it, I thought he was repositioning it when it was knocked out. Again, this is just MO

I saw on TV that all the Gopher players' names were "Minnesota".
Oh, wait a minute, that's all PeeJay Fleck ...

I the post-Maryland game thread, one gentleman here posted that from what he saw, Lovie had lost the team.
From the player quotes I followed now, they said there is total buy-in.
That is why I repeat, unless you are in the locker from and on the practice field, you have little evidence to make a comment like that.
