Cash.It is such a bad look to have these coaches in constant conversations with officials along the sideline. These conversations have gotten more and more prevalent with each year that goes by. As I said this is a horrible look for College basketball. When I first started watching and playing basketball back in the stone ages such conversations were often met with Technical fouls being called. I believe there should never be any conversation between game Referees and Coaches. There is absolutely no reason in the world that a coach needs to talk to an official. The referees call the game. The coaches coach the players. I believe that it is long past due that rules be passed that no conversation is to be allowed between game coaches and referees once play begins until the final buzzer occurs. Such conversations serve no purpose. I also believe that when a coach makes an attempt to talk to an official that the official is then obligated to a call a technical foul on the bench.
Just watched it again. CoHawks arm isn't straight up as Hall is coming up to shoot, but angled into Hall. He then gets Hall on the arm with his left arm, then again with his right arm. Also, contact occurs before the shot, but shot doesn't leave Hall's hand until after the buzzer. If Hawkins goes straight up with his arms and avoids the contact with his arm the shot doesn't even get off before the buzzer. And again, the biggest risk with fouling here isn't the free throws, it's the and-one possibility.I have looked at that shot over and over and over. I don't believe it was his intention to foul at all. Just to give the MSU kid something to shoot over. If he hadn't challenged that shot, everyone on here would have been screaming about it. That was an easy layup if he doesn't challenge it and Hawk didn't slap at the ball or do anything except try to give the MSU kid something to shoot over. They called it a foul but, it was not a foul that is called very often and very rarely at that point in a game. Hawk did exactly what you are taught to do in that situation. I actually initially responded to someone that basically called it a stupid foul. I don't know any decent high schoolers that would have missed that shot if no one had contested it.
I've been saying it relentlessly this year - he is criminally underrated. His career per 40 numbers are very very good compared to some of our past legends, and you can't overstate what he's contributed to the program as a leader and example.
Lieb dropped a dude on a screen. He’s going to be awesome.Absolutely nothing against Brandon Lieb, but if you'd asked me if we'd see him with tick in a one point win against Sparty this week, I would've said you were nuts. Getting a win and wicked intensity experience for deep bench players this year is priceless.
He's bouncier than you'd think, from what I've seen in warmups. I hope he gets some minutes against the Kitties.Lieb dropped a dude on a screen. He’s going to be awesome.
Payne no. BBV I could see being good foy 6-8 ppgAgree. Does anyone think Payne or BBV can eventually become offensive threats??
Trent plays as hard every minute of the game as any player I have seen. He may not be the most talented due to his height, but he is a junkyard dog.It will be an absolute travesty if Trent Frazier's jersey doesn't hang in the rafters. I know there are certain requirements or accolades that need to be met.
However, could you get better accolades than literally EVERY SINGLE opposing coach singing his praises. Painter, Izzo, Manning, and on-and-on. He's the heart and soul of this squad, took a backseat when needed, steps up when needed, plays through injury, is a defensive dawg, imo has contributed to the Illini culture as much as Ayo did, is loyal to the program in a transfer era, and gives his teammates nonstop credit (he mentioned Luke numerous times in the post game presser), not to mention a top-10 all-time scorer.
Whitman: Do the right thing. Hoist #1 to the rafters.
blackdog, Coach said in his presser that BBV was just cramping. He said he didn’t feel sorry for him at all, and they had to make sure he hydrated better (or something to that effect). My biggest concern after the game is hoping BBV is ok. Seemed like he was either cramping or pulled something. They put him back in on that last FT so hopefully just a cramp but we really can't afford to lose anymore guys.

And don't forget MSU!We've pulled some great players over the years from around the country. Seeing Trent for example isn't a huge surprise.
But seeing Goode from Indiana just doesn't compute. How the hell did we pull him in past IU and Purdue.
Uh... wrong sport, though at the rate our guys are dropping, maybe we need helmets. So, I found my avatar flag on Amazon....must own obvs.....and decided to throw it on the banister yesterday for gameday mojo sh#ts and giggles.
Now it's not coming down.

Probably helps that neither offered him (which is crazy too!). Now, he did get offers from MSU, Iowa, Maryland and Butler and I feel like in the Weber/Groce eras he'd have taken one of those over us.We've pulled some great players over the years from around the country. That’s awesome. At 13.4ppg if we make a good run in the BTT and NCAA then he should be 3rd all time. Should be 5th by the end of regular season.
100%, but the minutes he gave were not a negative. Once he did get blown by on defense, back to the bench he went.Unfortunately what's going to hold him back is footspeed and lateral quickness. He looks better than last year but still just a small step up from Lurch. The game at the B1G level is just physically too fast for him right now.
I did absolutely love the physicality on the screen setting. Was a little worried he was going to get called for an offensive foul for going too hard
Speaking of culture, how impressive is it that Ayo Dusunmo shows up tonight??? He played last night in Oklahoma and tomorrow night vs Toronto and makes time to come to Champaign and support his guys!!!! Gotta love his LOYALTY! And he was just here a week ago. Never seen that before. Thanks Ayo. Go Illini.
