Just watched it again. CoHawks arm isn't straight up as Hall is coming up to shoot, but angled into Hall. He then gets Hall on the arm with his left arm, then again with his right arm. Also, contact occurs before the shot, but shot doesn't leave Hall's hand until after the buzzer. If Hawkins goes straight up with his arms and avoids the contact with his arm the shot doesn't even get off before the buzzer. And again, the biggest risk with fouling here isn't the free throws, it's the and-one possibility.
Here’s a question I’ve never thought of: if the ball would’ve gone through the basket with the foul happening at .2 but the shot leaving the hand after 0.0, would the basket have counted? My assumption is they’d look at it and give 2 free throws, waving off the basket, but I’ve been surprised before.

I think that's probably right.

Edit: Actually I think the guy below is right

Yes it would count because the clock stops on the foul so technically the buzzer never went off.

hoop and harm at .2, basket counts, refs look at clock, put .2 back on the clock. 1 FT, we lose

Tonight showed why CH doesn’t get much court time added next to nothing
He’s lost some confidence for sure. He’s still got some time to figure it out. To me he still needs to get stronger. In Fletch I trust :)

I admit, I was getting greedy at halftime. Wanted to put them away and win by 25. About 4 minutes left I had to reset my expectations and remember that this is a huge W regardless of the margin.

Back in 1st place baby!
I did the same thing

I still think CH is the best option off the bench at the 4 then 3 where as LG is showing he is a good option at the 3 then 4.

Unfortunately what's going to hold him back is footspeed and lateral quickness. He looks better than last year but still just a small step up from Lurch. The game at the B1G level is just physically too fast for him right now.

I did absolutely love the physicality on the screen setting. Was a little worried he was going to get called for an offensive foul for going too hard
Hey, don't knock Lurch...he (aka Ted Cassidy) played Division 1 ball at Stetson back in the day.

and the man had some moves...

No Kofi, no Andre--I didn't think this W would be possible. Tremendous game and leadership by Frazier. We got about 15 pts. from our two backup post players; not too bad. But we can't defend the paint without you know who. BTW, Plummer missed a free throw again; he's' down to .945 from the stripe. It's hard not to get enthused about Luke. Now let's give Podz some meaningful PT and find out what he can do.

Watching the BU presser, it never occurred to me before how strange it must be to be a professional coach after a win. You go into your locker room pumped up, screaming in celebration, foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, jumping around, blood vessel protruding dangerously far out of your forehead. Then you exit the locker room and you sit down at the post game press conference.
The adrenaline is still pumping. You straighten your tie, fix your hair, clear your throat and pretend to remember how to communicate with other non-basketball-playing humans. Speaking into the microphone, you say, "culture win", with your inside voice while just below the surface you desperately want to shout while slapping the white board behind you. Just wild.
Good insight!

I find the first part to be more out of place than the second.

Not that I hate to see it or anything.

Agree. He is in a funk between the ears. Need him to snap out of it. Just needs to see a couple go in and regain some confidence and swag. But you got to take them to make them and he just flat out won't right now
Seeing CoHawk makes me think of Brian Randle. All of the tools to be really special. When will he learn to use them properly? I always thought Randle never reached his full potential. Hopefully CoHawk will.

It is such a bad look to have these coaches in constant conversations with officials along the sideline. These conversations have gotten more and more prevalent with each year that goes by. As I said this is a horrible look for College basketball. When I first started watching and playing basketball back in the stone ages such conversations were often met with Technical fouls being called. I believe there should never be any conversation between game Referees and Coaches. There is absolutely no reason in the world that a coach needs to talk to an official. The referees call the game. The coaches coach the players. I believe that it is long past due that rules be passed that no conversation is to be allowed between game coaches and referees once play begins until the final buzzer occurs. Such conversations serve no purpose. I also believe that when a coach makes an attempt to talk to an official that the official is then obligated to a call a technical foul on the bench.
Go watch some old film of John Wooden and UCLA, He was always in the refs' ears.

For all the posters fussing about an “ugly” win . . . If you can tell me which one of the wins in the standings is the “ugly” one, before all of the Illini nation that has ever been and ever will be, I will sign over the deed to my beach house, forthwith. Great game guys, the only stat that matters is in the “W” column, and we found a way to get it done.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- — Trent Frazier scored a game-high 16 points, and No. 24 Illinois held on to beat No. 10 Michigan State 56-55 on Tuesday and take sole possession of first place in the Big Ten. Illinois (14-5, 7-2) was without two of its brightest stars: All-American center Kofi Cockburn (concussion) and guard Andre Curbelo (COVID-19 health and safety protocols).

Asked how his team responded with Cockburn, Illinois coach Brad Underwood laughed and said, "Obviously better than our last game," referring to the lopsided loss 81-65 loss at Maryland on Friday. The Illini led by as many as 15 points early in the second half before Michigan State (15-4, 6-2) mounted a furious comeback in the final four minutes. Illinois also didn't score for the last five minutes.

I slept pretty good last night and i attribute that to a resilient squad of young men and coaches refusing to give in to the tremendous difficulties bestowed upon them this year.........This is truly a group of hard working every day guys willing themselves to ignore fatigue and stressful tension's and do whatever is necessary to win........

I am so proud of this team ..................GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!
