Freshman get better in practice and the summer, not games.
Maxing out our ability to win now is how we recruit the talent we need to win later.
This is a good discussion. At the risk of pissing off both sets of folks. I gotta say I see a see a bit of both positions on this one.
Obviously, Brad is going to lean HEAVILY on his veterans. Why wouldn’t he?
There is no substitute for experience-None.
They’ve more than earned his trust and ours…rightly so…In Underwood We Trust…or at least we should. Good Golly
Look what he’s done? He knows what the heck he’s doing with his roster.
However our Freshman are far from scrubs.
Brad doesn’t think that they’re scrubs.
Brad believes in them. Therefore, I believe in them too. And I suffer from no send in the back-up QB syndrome…or whatever some of you have been calling it. At least I don’t think so. Maybe I’ll get that looked at.
As a fan, I just hope to see our young guys get a chance to develop and get as much experience as they can…WHEN Brad deems appropriate/applicable obviously.
I hope to see them all excel as much as possible. Personally I’m just hoping these guys get some valuable game experience…a minute here and there…as Brad is
ALREADY doing…I see nothing peculiar about that.
Them getting SOME experience can only help us in the future. He is attempting to temper them to B1G play as much as he sees fit. But not at the expen$e of our veterans. I get that. He knows what he is doing.
Freshman ARE largely made in practice and in the summer…But are we to believe PT
for Freshman is utterly worthless? I refuse
to believe that.
Yes, the best thing about Freshman is…they become Sophmores…
But do you really think Ayo gained nothing his freshman year playing all those minutes? No growth there at all? Why is Underwood even playing Goode, RJ, and Pods at all if freshman PT is utterly worthless? Haven’t they helped and been useful in several games? Brad thought so.
If playing freshmen only occasionally… hurts our chances with a recruit(s) maybe that ain’t exactly Everyday-Guy material.
