Illinois 68, Alabama A&M 47 Postgame

Far from impressive but a win is a win. Too many turnovers and poor free throw shooting again. When we are good, we are very good. When we're bad we're vey bad.

Wierd game...

That team isnt good at all, and the start to the 2nd half was unacceptable.

Brad's demeanor was just strange the whole game. I get he's gonna yell and have veins popping off his face and I obviously he sways between very tough but also teaching and encouragenent but...

Don't cross your arms nearly the whole game and then just erupt, even the guys who know its what you do need consistency...but also, I'm just an outside observer, maybe everything is honky dory behind the scenes and I hope it is.

Schematically, they can and will defend well and can be elite when they are all focused...offense needs ALOT of work. We can play with anyone and we know that, but there has to be work put in to run an offense that creates easy shots when you need them. 2 guys who I think can be key are Skyy and Dain...Skyy because I this he is getting better every game, healthier every game and I think his offensive game is gonna blossom. Dain because he is really good on the block. I want more touches for both of them.

The seasons may change... The names on the backs of the Illini jerseys may change... but The Orange still suffer from These-Five-Minute-Stretches-With-No-Points periods during too many games. This represents many offensive possessions in a row coming away with nothing... not even a free throw.

Shooters going cold... intense defense against them... starting to play tensed up... losing focus. Too many quick Threes... reasons.

The answer? Get some one-on-one clearouts going and get some defensive fouls at least. And get the ball inside. Create some contact. Quick passes around the perimeter to facilitate the open man for better spot-ups.

And then... HIT THE SHOTS.

Against a quality opponent, those dead stretches are game fatal. Can’t have that.

And a side note... give thanks this Holiday Season to the University of Texas at Austin. Because of them – and once he saw that Burnt Orange plumage... the Illini now have the gift of the Matthew Mayer we were hoping to get.

For most of that game I began feeling like CoHawk could have stuck his head through the team’s skylight. Last half of second half made me feel a little better. But I’m not gonna lie, a performance like in the first 30 minutes against that team — especially after the Penn St performance — is troubling.
