Illinois 68, Iowa 66 POSTGAME

Our bench is weak. Not even serviceable.

That's because our top three bench guys are playing starters minutes due to injuries.

Watched this game at work in Bettendorf Iowa. Was huddled with about 7-8 Iowa fans watching the last 30 seconds. After the buzzer sounded I walked away with my hands in the air and let out a big "WOOOOO!!!"

Just finished the game I had to DVR it and I just wanna say a few things. First, I love beating Iowa and Fran Mccaffery's face bothers the hell out of me. Also, this week has made me run out of orange kool-aid and I need to get some before tomorrow's game

Same here! My house was running pretty low - thought I ran through it all on Wednesday - but Mav helped me find some reserves I had stashed away!!

Were you escorted from the building?

Why bust tail to be the first down the floor if you don't think you will get the ball?

I understand your dislike for AA and next season, his minutes will be very limited (hopefully). However, there is no possible way that he is option #1 for any outlet passes in that situation. IIRC Tate was in at that time and his hair and AA's are similar...??? Mav blew that pass. Not on AA in that situation. Nunn, Hill, JCL, Tate, or Lewis not having their head around in that situation would be on them, not Mav. That play just didn't seem like a mistake on AA's part... Anyway, we won and get to play again tomorrow (even with MH only scoring 6 pts).

Now, let's beat Purdon't tomorrow! :chief:

I don't dislike AA. I dislike the playing time he gets, but that's on the coach. That being said, I thought he was ok today and was fine with the minutes he got, in hindsight that is. Still doesn't mean he didn't mess up that play. It's fine, the other players mess up too, and when they do, we sometimes call it out. AA turned his back to the play and had no idea the ball was coming to him, he should have been paying closer attention. It's also partly on Mav for throwing a pass to a guy not looking. At any rate, I wasn't trying to start a discussion on who's fault it was, I was only making a joke with my initial post

Your joke worked, I laughed when I read it. It just seems like AA is the dog everyone likes to kick whether he has F'd up or not. Hopefully people can be upset at AA's minutes tomorrow after beating Purdon't.:thumb:

I like John Groce, but I don't understand what Tate was doing in the game at a critical time late in the game, especially when Lewis had been playing so well. Tate's shaky play and turnovers were the centerpiece of our lost double-digit lead.

For a guy who gets relatively little playing time....this board goes out of its way to scrutinize so much about him and coach decision to use him for a couple of minutes each game, and the board rarely gives kudos to him (someone did recognize him for his significant play and taking the Jok charge...thanks for that) I really like AA because he plays very hard and is an Illini.

Rant over...

The team played much better defense and had offense from other players than just Nunn or Hill. Shows you they could have done this a few more times earlier this year. Don't know if you should blame players or coach? I'm sure both are somewhat responsible but I guess Groce can't make them play harder or shoot the ball for them. Either way a great win and a breath of fresh air in a dismal season. Beat Purdue, I want to return to a tradition of watching Illinois play during the St Patties day celebration!

Gotta love MH's determination, you could tell by the way he moved he was going to score. Seems like there were a a few more assists than average today. Nunn back on track.

There were a LOT more assists than average today. 20 I believe they said in the postgame. There have been 3 game stretches where we didn't get 20 assists total.

There were also quite a few "hockey assists" where a guy made a good setup pass to the passer that ultimately got the assist on the scoresheet.

Besides Jok, I thought Iowa chucked up a lot of puringtons.

Another thing that I loved (besides knowing Iowa is out) is that the replay rule at the end of the game finally went our way! Its about time, as I have been waiting for that rule to pay off after the Miami game happened. I figured it was always going to work against us. Sweet game yesterday!
