Illinois 71, Jackson State 47 Postgame

Thought Omar would replace Kofi defensively and rebounding and wasn’t worried about the offense with Hawk, RJ, and Goode. Haven’t seen enough from Omar to give me confidence in that.

Ahh, the redshirt discussion. Welcome back old friend. Which scholarship players should pay their own way scheduled to arrive any day now!
With NIL they don't even have to pay their own way. WhiteHorseWings could pay their way.
I would hope if the White Horse Inn were still there, we’d indeed have some Bello Hot Sauce Wings and a Kofi Burger. Sadly, I think it probably closed long ago.

Still exists just in a new location and at least when it first opened it was a pretty generic college bar.

Did some day drinking there on a day they were woefully understaffed. The dishwasher was filling in at bar. “Oh, you don’t know how to make a White Russian? We’ll walk you through it. First, grab those 20 oz glasses…” Probably caught some bad karma but good, good times…

Was great in the mid nineties

Agreed. I like the two new '22 guards and also the shooting potential from the wing with this year's three FR.

I was more or less addressing Shelt's comment about being in good shape for 2022-23. BU now has my expectations set at being pre-season Top 10 to Top 15 every year, and I think we'll still be a 6'8 to 6'11 big time 5-star inside scorer away from being Top 15.

If I can use Lou's run during the 1980's as an example, we need to develop a consistent recruiting run similar to Eddie Johnson-Efrem Winters-Ken Norman-Nick Anderson-Kenny Battle-Marcus Liberty-Deon Thomas.) It's not yet apparent to me that we'll have that type of inside scoring from the Center/Forward position once Kofi graduates.

5-star inside talent.
College basketball is a guard’s, or players with guard skills, game. At minimum, your big needs to be able to set great screens, finish lobs and dumpoffs, and if he’s really good, hit some pop 3s or pop and attack the close out.

Defensively he needs to be able guard ball screens multiple ways, and alter/block shots at the rim.

We have the dominating inside presence with Kofi. He can not be guarded at this level. He might be able to post up 1/2 the centers in nba right now due to his pure mass and strength. But his draft stock tells you what wins basketball from bigs at the highest levels right now.

100% agree. No better evidence than Baylor last year, who steamrolled a great Gonzaga team for the Natl Title. Their Center was a guy who defended and rebounded and occasionally scored.

I'd love to replace Kofi with another inside beast who can give us 18 points and 10 rebounds a game. But it's unlikely to happen and it's not necessary to win a Natl Championship.

For next year, I'm much more worried about our guards. If Belo leaves, our backcourt would be Epps, Harris, and Podz. Can't see us being a top 20 team with only those three guards (and I like the potential of all three). You have 13 scholarships to give -- IMO five of them need to be pure guards (and not wings who can "help out" in an emergency).

Again, I'm not saying a don't want to pick up a 5 star 6'11 beast center. Maybe it will happen.
