Illinois 72, Nebraska 56 Postgame

Rodgers and Harris co-MVPs in this one. Their play won us a ton of extra possessions (10 combines extra possessions won vs. 2 lost) and turned the tide in this one. They won us this game on sheer effort, heady play, and making sure we ran some offense. They were special tonight. Sometimes you're not going to have what it takes to win, and to be quite frank, we weren't playing like a team deserving to win. In those type of games you just need a couple people to step up and push you through it and that was Ty and Sencire tonight. I look forward to seeing our three freshmen for years to come wearing the orange and blue. What a freshman class.

As for the infuriating things we did tonight, plain and simple, we need to play a hell of a lot smarter and with a ton more maturity. Today our upperclassmen failed to do that, may it be the last time this season.

Over the last 12 games, RJ is shooting 13% from 3's, while chucking up almost 40 of them. I'm sure he's a great kid but I would ask him to not take any more 3's and figure out a different way to help us win games.

He's shown the ability to make them. He's probably got the yips, but he's contributing in other ways on the floor right now, so I'm ok with him taking 2-3 a game to try and get himself out of it, as long as they're in the flow of the offense. If he can start hitting them again that makes this team a lot more dangerous.

Well our offense wasnā€™t exactly getting him the ball in a place to succeed either.
This. He had trouble establishing position down low, and the few times he did, his teammates didn't find him or he quickly relinquished that position to go set a high ball screen. Strange.

Yea at this point that's too big a sample size to ignore. His shot is broken and he needs to find it again in the off season. I get wanting him to find it now though because it would be a game changer. I'd rather see Harris shoot one at this point than RJ.

It's one thing missing on the threes, but he's missing them bad. I mean, "knowing there's no chance as soon as it's out of his hands bad."

Every game I think he's going to break out of the shooting slump, but at this point, I'm starting to think only a sports psychologist can help him.

Can't wait to hear Brad's presser and comment on why he was sitting on the bench by himself during halftime.
Hopefully it wasn't a Bud Kilmer type speech where none of the team follows him out of the locker room

Wow.....closer than it should have been , but we closed out on a 22-6 run.................it is disturbing to start the last few games slogging in the mud offensively and playing soft D...............
Then along comes the frosh........

The frosh are posh.....the frosh are posh.........

take that D topo g-joe ,
Sincerely,
Sincere Harris aka " The Tasmanian Devil "

Ty Rodgers with a massive all around game ,,,,He hustles like his life depends on it ...........made a FT.....yea !!...great D.....
we shot poorly from the arc (what else is new ) and MM drained his last 3 when the game was wrapped up...........lol
Dain got no help with not any interior passes down low.......
TSJ , cohawk and MM will so-so games ........

The frosh are posh..........the frosh are posh.......Ty , Sincere and Epps are all hustlers and have great BB IQ ( most times , at least )
I'm pulling for RJ to stay the course and concentrate on D and taking the ball to the paint........
No 3 pointer at the buzzer by our opponent ....snapped that ghastly streak.......

Hawkins learning how to attack the rim would be a welcome development.
Agree....Hawk has a plethora of skills that are above avg. for a guy his size. But this team needs him to score aggressively in order to beat NCAA worthy teams. He passes on a myriad of high probability scoring situations and the team ends up chucking a contested three or forcing bad passes. He must make more attempts to score in the paint if this team is to accomplish anything. But, unfortunately, we are likely to never see that happen. I fully understand he does not have DD quickness and footwork....but a jump hook or a simple 10 ft. jumper are available to him 10 times a game....10 pts would easily result and when added to the team output would enable this team to beat anyone. Eight pts. and 8 boards is OK....but OK is not good enough unless you want to battle it out with OSU and Wisky for 10th place and be home, warm, and finished before the first weekend of the B1G tournament.

Guess you missed him early getting doubled and throwing it up. If itā€™s working go with it. Some nights it doesnā€™t work.
Iā€™ll take him shooting those over us chucking step back or late clock desperation 3ā€™s
