I'd like to see a new rule for Andrej. If the first two moves on a drive fail, he must pass it back out. Andrej's percentage is horrible by the time he gets to his 3rd/4th tries. They are either turnovers or terrible shots. His pressing the issue cost several possessions today.
Yeah he was trying to hero ball like he was stuck playing in a John Groce offense. Gotta pass the ball out when they bring the doubles.

I'm just curious. Is anybody still trying to claim that we are well-coached offensively?

Florida looks more like a 6-8 seed than a defending champ. They simply aren't that good this year.

IMO, our defense keeps improving. Big Z is a very good shot blocker. I like the fact we played some zone. BU may have deployed that to protect Wagler when he got into foul trouble. Davis played a better game than his point total would indicate; He won't go 1-5 on triples very often..He helped the team in other ways--he understands the offense and makes good passes. He's smart. He understands his role on the team and plays it well. He needs to continue to launch those open threes.

Plus last year Tomi was more involved inside as a passer. With Keaton and Mirk he hasn't been and that ir something is effecting his play.
This. He has a diminished role. Last year he was playmaking from the top of the key. Would like to maybe see him paired more with Ben instead of Mirk and maybe have Andrej cutting like Will and White last year.

Either he is struggling with a nagging injury or $$ = poison, either way he is a fraction of what he was last year and we are almost half way through the season! Brad knows it, but apparently feels the need to coddle him in the media to maintain his confidence - easy to do after a win. Brad's credibility is on the line when he starts coddling poor performers.

To quote Brad-The Nebraska game really woke us up? Well Brad I think they went back to sleep. This was one of the worst displays of basketball by an Illini team. Turnovers, poor shooting, just sloppy ball handling-dribbling into 3-4 guys and losing the ball. Tomi is completely ineffective. 7-1" only 2 rebounds, 2 points against an inferior team. Big Z needs to be the starter and play 30 minutes. When I watch Scum and Purdue, I see teams playing with energy, purpose and fire. I don't see any of that with the Illini. They seem to be going through the motions. Penn State got under their skin last night and if Wagler hadn't come back into the game they might have lost it.

Keaton left with two fouls at 14:35 of first half. Score was 15-9 Illinois.

He came back at 12:11. Score was 17-13.

He leaves with his third foul at 8:21. Score was 27-14.

To me that 4min stretch is where the game was decided.
If I recall correctly he scored 7 points in that stretch.

That's why I'd like to see some actions run for Andrej. He is a great finisher at the rim, imagine if they gave him a little extra help. They didn't run much if anything for TJ either.

Keatons third was around 3:50 but the rest checks out

There were numerous times were PSU cut into the lead and threatened but guys didn't panic and found a way to respond. I think you have to give credit that this is a persistent team that doesn't really get rattled and will be a tough out come March (or April). Mind you, we're talking about a team that isn't going to make the dance in PSU, but I think we've seen these guys play with poise through most of the season.

Playing Wagler with the fouls was a head-scratcher to me, but I trust Brad had reasons to see how he and the team would handle it.

As for people talking down Michigan, I don't get it. They have looked every bit the part of a Natty champ in my eye test, and they're blowing out the analytics. #1 on Kenpom by FIVE points today. BartTorvik by TWO percent, Evan Miya by Three. Those are incredibly large gaps --not sure you can find a similar team. Lotta bball to play but they deserve to be labeled the favorite in the conference.

I’ve watched Michigan play a few times this year. Really well rounded team. I thought dusty may was a “flavor of the month” type of hire, but so far I’ve been proven wrong.

And, ps, morez Johnson has been crushing it there. I really liked him when he was an Illini and was sad to see him go. Still lot convinced the shift to euro style ball for the bigs vs keeping morez was the right decision.

I get why people are going with the “a win is a win” theory. But I want so badly to have more success in March. And you have the ability to enhance your resume and metrics all season long. Well winning at Penn St. by 8 does not move the needle. I really thought we were turning a corner mentally but we just can’t seem to stay laser focused game in and game out. It’s my biggest concern right now. We thought Purdue would be our top opponent to compete for the Chicago regional but Michigan is currently playing like a juggernaut. They are beating much better teams by 30. This team should beat this years PSU team by 15-20 even if Wagler misses the entire game. Maybe my expectations are too high but this wasn’t just a game of missing shots. I think we’ve all seen what the ceiling can be with this team and so there’s frustration when we lack a killer instinct. I will always take a win but I can’t always be satisfied with how we win just because it’s a win.
The difference between 8 and 15 was a couple of garbage time shots that fell for PSU. You cant really feel any better if we had just closed better in a game already decided.

That take by Underwood in the postgame on Tomi is just utter nonsense- his response to Tomi's terrible game is they doubled him? Apparently doubling means a 7'1 guy can't get rebounds still- can't play good defense- can't not foul 4 times... It's so insincere to call out David for far less than this.. and then coddle Tomi. This also isn't a 1 game blip, Tomi's had one good game for nearly the first half of the season.
Its almost like Brad knows how to handle each player as an individual, and what type of support or motivation each player needs.

I saw these primary adjustments tonight…

1) movement to a matchup zone to protect Keaton, but also funnel shots to Z and force bad shooters to shoot

2) without Keaton, moving to playing through the post in Mirkovic - I thought he was terrific in the second half

3) a concerted effort to turn up the heat at the halfcourt line to force turnovers and get some more easy transition buckets

Legitimately thought the second half adjustments were glaring and all fans could see that?
Only the ones that know anything about basketball saw the adjustments. All the others were complaining that Underwood never adjusts . . .
