Just absolute *boggle* this happened. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The original foul was on Sage- you can’t challenge a foul call but you can appeal for a review that it was a hook and hold on the other player.
To make the call even more ridiculous the refs listened to Sages explanation of the foul and then went to Iowas coach and went through his options to appeal the call- I’ve never seen a ref crew spend that much time listening to a complaint.
The most egregious part of the whole call was it had absolutely nothing to do with the play - it was a long rebound Mirk secured and 99% of the time two guys getting tangled up away from the play is a play on- really could have been a disaster call. To take a possession away from a team and give the other team two free throws and the ball back because you think “ maybe he hooked him a little” after 4 min review is ridiculous
At least we’re 2-0 following late game, mind boggling foul reviews that could’ve changed the outcome.Just absolute *boggle* this happened. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
The announcers were very annoying today. Did you know that Keaton Wagler only had two major offers? Did you know that Humrichous is a glue guy and can knock down shots? At one point the Illini fans in attendance were chanting I-L-L… I-N-I and one of the clueless announcers said the crowd is doing everything it can to encourage the Hawkeyes.![]()
Put some respect on Jason Benetti please, he is a treasure. I like to imagine it was stated as a diss to the Hawkeyes and then it’s great! At one point the Illini fans in attendance were chanting I-L-L… I-N-I and one of the clueless announcers said the crowd is doing everything it can to encourage the Hawkeyes.![]()
1st time, Iowa player was clearly over his backAmazing how Z just falls down like that getting a rebound? Crazy! Especially to happen twice. How could that have possibly happened refs?![]()
Agree regarding Z but Tomi is definitely needed. We need him to develop and be more than was last season, specifically we need him to develop a serviceable low post game. He just isn't very good down there currently, even against smaller players. Having that in our tool kit would really add another layer.I think it's time to accept Tomi just isnt needed or used in same capacity as last season. He feasted on those pick and pops with KJ
Keaton will just get to the hoop. Not to mention a better shooter than KJ.
Offense is going through Mirk as well. Where it'd only go through Tomi in the frontcourt last season.
With how Z is playing, Tomi should only be getting 15-20 minutes a game. Z's been the better player all season. He's a game changer defensively
Maddening how he continues to hold the ball low in the post, just to get stripped by a guard. He’s freaking 7 feet tall. Seems like that should be easy to correct.Agree regarding Z but Tomi is definitely needed. I would not change the lineup at all. I like Z off the bench. No need to rock the boat.Agree, a good way to destroy Tomi’s confidence would be to bench him from starting lineup. Plus Big Z is a hell of a boost off the bench.
Goodness grace. He never said Tomi isn’t needed flat out… that was only the first part of his sentence. The full quote reads “isn’t needed or used in the same capacity as last season.”This is the worst take that one has taken on this board all year. The ceiling, if Tomi is playing to his capabilities, is through the roof. This team will absolutely not reach it's full potential without him.
The fact that we're winning games without him is encouraging, that I get. Your take that we don't need him is just silly. Purely MO.
And get a technical in a 4pt game with under a minute left?To me, that was an abysmal and horrible call. Once they were conferring for an eternity, I knew it was going against BU. No fire and passion from BU after the reversal, which is fine, but it'd be fun to see go after the refs.
I was actually glad he kept his cool. You can be angry when the game is over and not cost your team a lead. He led by example in that situation. He stayed calm, player stayed calm, we held on.And get a technical in a 4pt game with under a minute left?
