I know of 3 guys that it was really impacting today …

Get this 💩 out of the system now …

People can disagree but I’m not worried about the Big Ten Tournament … If we win … Great … If we lose … Fine …

Focus needs to be on the Big Dance … Second weekend …
I'd like to win at minimum the first game.

He did answer the question. He said it’s not an issue. He didn’t give the answer you wanted which he isn’t obligated to but he did answer the question.
Spot on. Some of the questions from media are just stupid and should be treated that way.

I love these. Would like to draw attention to the yellow circles. One is not like the other. When the threes ain't falling, please, please start going inside more when we have such an obvious advantage (e.g. Maryland, or say, I don't know - WISCONSIN). Now, that strategy probably doesn't work against Michigan. But we've got to recognize when the shots are not going in that we should get the ball to the rim, at least for stretches. It seems so obvious, IMO.

It was the difference in this game. They missed some bunnies, we by and large did not.

We had 12 offensive rebounds which lead to 19 second chance points. Which shots do you think lead to those extra 19 points?

19 additional points is worth an extra (6) 3’s. Which is why we still scored 1.25 points per possession in a game that we didn’t shoot all that well.

If/when we lose in march, it’ll be because we either don’t get those offensive rebounds or we can’t get a stop when it matters.

The sign of being a great team is when they don’t blow a team out we as fans talk about the things we did wrong and not the things the other team did well. Mills and Adams shot out of their minds and the crowd was super annoying (I mean that as a compliment… they made it a real home court advantage). Just have to give the devil its due.

No fire … No adjustments … Just keep chucking 3s and let Mills score at will …
Second lowest 3 pt attempts of the season and who do we have to guard Mills given Keaton's sore back and Kylan's foul trouble? What adjustment do you want to see to correct that?

Yes, I don't disagree. We seem slow to go inside when threes are not falling though. One glaring example is that we were up 6 I think (??) after the flagrant free throws. We had been scoring inside, so what do we do with the bonus possession? Missed a three.

I'm not saying abandon threes. Or shoot well below an average NCAA team. All I'm saying is recognize when you have the advantage down low and try to take advantage of it instead of continuing to shoot shots you are not successfully making at particular points during games.

Today's game we scored more points in the paint than any other game in conf play (42). We went inside plenty, its not always there

Remember when everyone was talking about how Michigan kicked our arse inside (and they absolutely did)? They had 42 pts in the paint that game...

In that we have Kylan and Andrej (who was sick, I hear, but at least not injured) back?
And you're the guy that called me illogical for suggesting playing at Purdue without Kylan was beneficial at the time. We can all get it wrong sometimes. Lol. I swear im not hating on you though, I appreciate your passion for this program.

I don't understand what that has to do with "close games".

He's right, they've pulled away and won tons of close games. I'd be offended too if fans/media blindly parroted a talking point that's pretty easy to disprove. I'd be more concerned if he wasn't passionate about that.
The reported stated an objective fact.

The Illini have struggled a bit in close games as of late.

4-4 since Feb 7th(MSU game) with Maryland being the only close game they won. Oregon, Indiana, and USC were never close. Then they dropped close games in overtime to Wisconsin, MSU, and UCLA(UCLA loss was embarrassing) and then Michigan was never really that close.

Before Maryland you have to go back to Nebraska on February 1st for a tight game where Illinois pulled away. The question wasn't about the entire season, it was about recent games.

He was just a jerk about it. It was a valid question when the last 3 close games had been overtime losses. Even though this was "only" Maryland it was nice to get over the hump in a tight game.

Same thing when he went after Piper last year. He's clearly not pleased with their recent play and that's fine, but he also doesn't have to respond to reporters like that.

It's not as bizarre as the Mick Cronin thing but it is also just completely unnecessary.

If/when we lose in march, it’ll be because we either don’t get those offensive rebounds or we can’t get a stop when it matters.
According to the play-by-play on fightingillini.com, we got 7 offensive rebounds on 19 missed 3 pointers (37%), 2 on 4 missed layups (50%), 2 on 6 missed jumpers (33%), and 1 on a missed FT (Wagler, of course).

We didn't get the ORB on any of the Ivisic's 3 missed 3ptrs, which isn't surprising, so we got 7/16 (44%) where it wasn't a big that missed.

As for our other poor 3pt shooters: we got 1/2 of Stoj's missed 3s and Bos's only one. Humrichous isn't bad or great, but we did get 3/6 of his misses.

So the Ivisic's really need to shoot better to keep taking those shots. I still don't like Stoj or Bos taking a 3, and I'm on the fence about H taking so many (he'd probably make a higher % if he only took them when wide open from a good spot), but at least we get a decent amount of those back.

I wouldn’t fault either judgement here.

The "be super physical with Keaton" plan only works because BIG refs won't call it. Do that to Braden Smith or Jeremy Fears and they'll shoot 20 FTs per game.

And no, it has absolutely nothing to do with lack of strength or athleticism. He just won't flop and fall to the ground like the rest of 'em.

Those are FOULS.
I think in the tourney a lot of those are called. I remember TSJ getting fouled a ton in conference and not getting calls when he’d drive also. But in the tourney he got to the line much more. Let’s hope when it matters we start getting some of these calls for Keaton. That will really open things up for us.

Yes. Agreed. I love the toughness; but we definitely need our Keaton to occasionally channel Buster Keaton.

Watched it back last night, honestly I don’t think we played that bad. Somewhat sluggish and we didn’t shoot well. Maryland hit some tough ones and we found a way. Great adjustments in the 2nd half by staff to cut off Mirk post ups and then dump down to the dunker with the 3s not going down.
