The Fighting Illini went into an energized hostile environment and did what good teams do – take a solid punch from a motivated opponent and still come out on top.
The Cornhuskers – a once-great-and-fearsome-but-no-longer – football power have emerged this season as a formidable threat to approach the Final Four. They have finally learned how to use the rounded ball as more than just a way to pass the hours until Spring Practice begins. The famous Sea of Red has moved itself in spirit over from Memorial Stadium to also inhabit the indoors.
Today was a great game atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon that was not bad weather outside for Nebraska early February standards. The Illini and Huskers certainly kept the temperature on the floor superheated with flowing Three Balls, spirited punch-and-counterpunch all game, and energized fans.
Keaton Wagler got to smile. He enjoyed the company of more of his loved ones who made the short drive up to the Capital City from the Sunflower State. He responded with yet another fine performance. Will they ever see him play in the State of Nebraska again in a college uniform?
The Illini have caught up with and passed above the Huskers on the gridiron. Now the Illini must continue to preserve their superiority on the ball floor against a Nebraska team that is starting to taste a level of success there they are not used to having in the past. And it must be recognized that it took a coach that once played and coached in the State of Illinois to make that happen.
That’s how things roll in our Orange and Blue (not Red) Basketball State.
