Our help D in the lane is way improved from where it was earlier this year, where it was last year, or really where it’s been since Egwu. Credit to our guards (who are all good defenders) for figuring out where to funnel drivers and Giorgi and our other bigs for knowing where to be.

If you ever replay our games it's interesting to watch Trent and how much help D he plays throughout the game....he should get consideration for a spot on one of the all B1G defensive teams.....JMHO

So I was doing a bit of light reading on the MSU 247 boards in their game thread. This post made me chuckle.

"I'm surprisingly irritated at the crowd support/energy Illinois has for a 7-15 team. salt"

I actually laughed at this line and had people asking me what was so funny. Later in the thread someone commented at how their own student section was just standing around doing nothing during their game against Indiana. It just makes me happy to see our fans & student section still getting behind this team at Assembly Hall err SFC.

I'll admit I was grinding my teeth when MSU took their first lead of the game that late. I was about to just give up on the game win but look at the positives from the night that did show the team was getting better even with the loss.. Then that pass to Feliz and the 3 point play to tie it back up snapped me back to reality. This team didn't give up and Ayo hit those 2 huge 3's. So proud of this team not giving up and slapping MSU back down when they thought they had finally turned the game around.

Great Win! Let's keep moving forward and beat Rutger's this weekend to make it 3 in a row at home!

Go Illini!

I know Dakich can be a pain, but I did appreciate the fact that he attributed a lot of MSU's missed shots to being rushed by the Illinois style of play, even some of the seemingly open ones.

You know that whole "first 10 minutes of the second half is our weakness" thing I've posted on a couple of times? It didn't happen last night, UI outscored MSU 17 to 16 in that "quarter." I think a corner's been turned by both the players and coaches. Bring on Rotgut.

When Dakich said, “This won’t end well” I said, “Take over, Ayo.”
I am so happy for this team and its coach. AJ’s blocked shot was huge. Finally, they are learning how to finish. I’m really, really excited for the future... I-L-L

I think many of you are misinterpreting what Dakich said. IMO he was only talking about the possession not the outcome of the game.

Could somebody find and post the clip showing Giorgi giving the Georgian flag to his brother after the game.Very touching.

Yep, but still Dakich sticks his foot in his mouth so often. He's one of those commentators that you can openly tell has decided which team is going to win, which in my opinion makes him awful. Impartiality is difficult to maintain but it's what separates the mediocre from the great.

Surprised that nobody has commented on BU's new "orange" blazer and the fact that he gave up his old "salmon" one. Or maybe it was my screen.

Didn't Dakich also say we'd be in the top 3-4 in the B1G next year? The nerve of that man!

I really enjoyed hearing Giorgi talk about how electric the atmosphere was at SFC. I’m sure pretty much every player was experiencing something very special for the first time. To play against a top ten team and and play the way they did is a huge confidence boost and goes a long way to regaining their swagger. I hope this game is etched in their memories and has them hungry for more!

Dakich has a personality, which is why I like him. He says what he’s thinking and is self-deprecating when it turns out to be wrong. I’ll take that over color announcers who never go out on a limb and are unwilling to criticize players, coaches or refs. I think opinions and anecdotes make the games more fun. It seems like some of you would rather the commentary mimic a world news broadcast.

I think Dakich said that he meant it wouldn't end well if Ayo tried to blow by Winston.
Instead, he just pulled up and drained it. Then did it again.
Great burn, AD !

This. I don't like Dakich as an announcer, but I thought he was saying plenty of good things about the Illini the whole game. As much as he likes Winston, he said at least a couple of times that the Illini have gotten in his head and sped him up.

Spot on. And it's too bad because when he actually breaks down the game and what is happening, he is pretty good. It's everything else that comes with him that annoys me. I think part of the problem is he is aware of the hate he gets on twitter from the fanbases and he likes playing the bad guy. Tries to fuel it at times.

I am one proud Illini this morning and I have not felt this way in a long, long time.

The way we sped MSU up and had them all out of sorts was a continuation of the development we've been seeing for awhile. But the way we responded to blowing the big lead and being on the ropes was the sort of character we haven't seen in awhile. Synthesize those two things and make that consistent and we're really going somewhere.

Surprised that nobody has commented on BU's new "orange" blazer and the fact that he gave up his old "salmon" one. Or maybe it was my screen.

HOWEVER, oh my god this was so bad. First of all, Brad's a big man, and that's always going to be a struggle with a brightly colored suit, it's just an awful lot of fabric. And his orange blazer in particular has a pastel-ish creamsicle hue that matches neither the Henson ones of old nor our current uniforms. And then he goes with a similarly pastel blue shirt, the whole effect makes him look like an ice cream man, which is ridiculous against his always volcanically angry Mount Rushmore-sized head.

The only coach who has looked good in the orange blazer since Henson was John Groce because he didn't try to make it into a Halloween costume. Neither did Weber really, but Weber never looked comfortable in anything.

I'd say Underwood should just scrap the orange altogether, but we know that's not gonna happen, so he needs to bring the whole look down to earth with a simple white shirt and dark trousers and a solid tie that lets the jacket do the work.

For a guy that clearly makes a good amount of money, I don't understand how hard it would be to walk in with a jersey, tell the tailor "make me a jacket that matches this color"
