I think people need to seriously cool their expectations on Lucas. This is a 6'0'' tall, barely 18 year old kid that's just gotten back from a long term injury. Also having seen him play a couple times in high school, I think he has a lot of potential, but he doesn't have the kind game that translates seamlessly to college. He's quick and crafty, but not overly athletic. He's a decent shooter, but he'll need time to adjust to the pace of NCAA basketball before you can really rely on him for points. At this point he's also likely a liability on defense.

TLDR: This season isn't dependent on Te'Jon Lucas. He's got a chance to be good, but let's cool it a bit and give him time.

Did Malcolm score 40? I didn't get to watch or listen, but my bleacher report app says 40 and 12, but no stats for anyone else...

Kind of scary, Pomeroy has not only nailed the margin of victory, but almost the exact score in both of the first 2 games. Tonight, he had predicted an 80-64 win. Friday he had us winning 82-63.

Unfortunately his projection for our final record is 16-14.

The way we've played so far how can you argue with that conclusion? Thats not to say we can't get better. I'm a big fan of Leron Black and JCL and Thorne will knock the rust off, but there's no denying that the team (save Malcolm Hill) has been underwhelming so far.

Hard to underestimate how awesome Hill is though.

Positives: Malcolm and ....

Black needs to have a huge impact on our rebounding numbers. Thorne is obviously having big issues still.

Why is Tate playing so much? TJL must be a long ways behind him. But even that doesn't explain why we're not seeing Tracy at the 1 more often. How long have Tracy, Hill, and JCL been on the floor together?

Our defense needs SERIOUS work, and it needs to happen soon.

Something is very noticeable is that we are atrocious at boxing out and going to get the rebound. Too many defensive rebounds are just a jump ball. Saw a number of times the ball hit the floor of a defensive rebound too. That shouldn't be happening. Gotta go and get it.

Offensively very sloppy. Hopefully that will get cleaned up as the season goes but too many times in the first half one guy is standing with the ball, one guy is cutting, and 3 are just kind of standing around. Not a good look.

I was at the game and it was very noticeable when Hill decided enough was enough. He completely took over the game and turned his intensity up on both ends of the court. Played with a lot of emotion too. Loved it.

Yeah, not "arguing" it. The good news is he's mainly using the previous couple of seasons data, so it does make some sense. Hopefully there is big improvement coming that will improve the forecast.

I didn't get to watch or listen to the game.

Is it safe to assume that games where Malcolm has his "A" games, we will be competitive in those games, and when he has a off/bad game, we most likely will lose those games?

I think it is a little early in the season to assume anything.

If it helps anyone feel better, Maryland only beat American by 6 points and they're one of the worst teams in the country.

Northern Kentucky is 279 and American is 299. Maryland is 54 and UI is 70 so all in all pretty similar match ups

Finke with his first career double/double. Hopefully many more to come.

Wow, it took him this long to get one? Legit surprised. Feels like he should be a double/double machine.
He had a 9 pt, 16 rebound game last season. Tonight's double-double for him won't be his last. I think he's the best offensive rebounder on the team.

Remember a few years back when we put up some amazing #'s and in like the first few games we were #1 in the nation in scoring. If I recall that season kind of flopped.

I think it just goes to show you never can tell how a season will go from the first few games.

Don't get me wrong I have that same uneasy feeling that I have had the last couple of years just trying to find something to cling to here.

No idea how to determine the quality of this team based on these games, which is a good thing after last season. We could be good, we could be bad, but at least it isn't obvious what we are after one game, like it was last year.

Everyone calling for more TJL really need to examine things first.
He didn't start back into things until a month ago. Yet you expect him after sitting for a full year and just now getting back into the game to learn the system, get in game shape, be ready to help lead this team as a freshman. Seriously if you believe that then I really feel sorry for you. He will improve and get more time but no reason to rush him out there before he is even ready.
