Danija should start and Hawkins needs to come off the bench. He played tentative and seemed lost on offense. RJ also played tentative. Both are very talented but they need to trust their skills and play with more confidence and fluidity. The freshmen are legit! Great battle!!!
I donā€™t know bro. Seems like the defense turned this game around and that was lead by Harris and Hawkins. They stopped the ā€œtwo man gameā€ I was so sick of hearing about. Love Dainjaā€™s offense though. We needed what everyone brought in this one. BU seems to know what he is doing.

I was at that game in ā€˜97 or ā€˜98. Kevin turner hit 8 3s but illini lost. Hometown refereeing didnā€™t help. 5 senior starters that year and big 10 champions though.
Late December '97. Their arrogant fans were dismissing us like we were Little sisters of the poor U, until Turner shut them up at the end.

Reading a bit on a UCLA forum, their fans kept talking about how their players were gassed, that conditioning was clearly in Illinois favor. Hats off to Mr Adam Fletcher. Also, it is amusing how some posters were saying that 3-1 in our next 4 games is the best we could do, and that a split ( or even 1-3) would be ok, that UCLA had a more talented roster. This team is good, and I'm going into every game thinking we will win. What a difference a few years and a great coach makes. That was fun.

the way we just flipped the script on that loaded /very good UCLA squad in the 2nd half (outscoring them like 51-33) Even that smug dukie Christian Laettener was impressed with it

Iā€™ve been wondering when Iā€™d see the first ā€œstart Hawkinsā€ post. At 35 minutes, only Shannon (38) had more minutes tonight than Hawk. Dainja had 18 minutes, so they are playing at the same time quite a bit. Hawk had some problems today, but he did some good things ā€” especially on D. And I think he assisted on at least 3 (2 for sure) of Dainā€™s baskets.

I love what Dain brings to the table and how he has been playing, but Hawk is the key to the pressure. Dain canā€™t do that. Should Dain get more minutes? Probably at least a few. But Iā€™m not sure at this point if Dainā€™s sweet spot minute-wise isnā€™t 20-25 minutes. As frustrating as Hawkā€™s play was at times tonight, there is a reason he played 35. But sure, by all means change the starting lineup after beating the #9 team.

LOL. I think someone hacked your account earlier in the week cuz sure sounds like youā€™re one of those ā€œamusing posters.ā€ In a post from your account earlier in the week:

ā€œI also think we have a very good shot at winning at least 2 of the next 4, and a decent shot at 3 wins.ā€

I love the idea of having a 10-player rotation!!!

Perhaps we don't have to pair down the number of players that get meaningful minutes this year!
