I initially felt CH was way sped up, made some bad passes, had some bad TOs.
At one point, I thought 'oh man, I guess we're getting bad CH this game'

BUT- I'll take his final stat line any day!
5 pts (2-3fg, 1-2ft), 5reb, 7 ast, 2st, 2 bl.

Great, great effort

(Leaving off TOs cause everyone was a bit loose🙂)

Yeah, Hawkins' engaged meter is clearly pegged. And I love it. He's a unicorn and he's learning that he can have a huge impact on games even without scoring much. Super high ceiling, just needs to stay calm.

So all the posts so far have been well and good but no one has asked the most important question, were there any Tobey Maguire sightings? Bill Murray?

It's not often you give up the ball 20+ times, get whooped on the glass, take 20 less shots, and still win.

Creating turnovers, blocking shots, and being more versatile offensively allows us to cancel out mistakes.

The past 2 years, we had to do most of the little things right and execute offensively to win games (and most of the time we did). This year, we can do none of those things and still have a chance to win. It's going to be infuriating at times, but overall really fun to watch.

Not to mention, there are a TON of Illini in Phoenix and the rest of AZ, which is a pretty easy drive or flight to Vegas.
I don't fully agree that there is such a thing as an easy drive to Vegas. Although I once went on a keg-bus, which was definitely easy and sort of counts.

Right. If we clean it up, we'll become a flippin' milkshake chugging monster.

What a great win. That was so fun to watch.

After watching some of this again today...

There is so much more to Skyy's game. He still looks really tentative, not really looking to score or attack too much. I still think it may be a body thing, trusting the knee/ankle/legs and getting his full rhythm back, but I think you are still only seeing the tip of the iceberg with him.

Mayer was so much better defensively. Didnt come out on skates as much and was able to stand his ground and sit on defense.

RJ looked like the moment was a bit big early on. I would love to see him embrace a 3 and D role for now, hit your set shots in the corner and rebound and play great defense. His spots to shine offensively will come.

They could be terrifying on defense because of the switching and length. I worry a bit offensively but I think they are going to get alot better over time, and Dain as a potentially low post option is going to be huge.

This. Is. FUN.

Correct. Your biggest wins are the things your grandchildren will see banners of, that's clear.

Nights like tonight are the ones old timers swap stories about. Remember that time Terrence Shannon went Godzilla Mode and we beat UCLA in Vegas with like 80% Illinois fans in the house?
Been watching Illini basketball for 65 yrs. and there are 4 games I remember vividly.
1. Fall or 73 when Dick Vitale brought an undefeated Detroit team to Assembly Hall. They had a kid scoring 25 per game. Two kids I knew well from my hometown, Otho Tucker and Brad Farnham, started for the Illini. Farnham guarded their star and held him to 4 pts or so as the Illini cruised to a win.
2. Flyin Illini of '89, my favorite team ever. They provided so many wonderful moments and amazing play. But it was the loss to Cheatigan after they beat them soundly twice that is so disappointing....still. Should never have happened.
3. Of course, the most amazing and unbelievable was the '05 Illini and their comeback victory against my Alma Mater...the Arizona Wildcats. I will never forget where I was and how my attention grew as I periodically glanced at the restaurant's TV and the disappearing margin. I root for the Wildcats to win every athletic contest...except when they play my Illini hoopsters for which I have had an crazy affinity for 65 years.
4. This UCLA game, and the play of TSJ and Sincere ranks with all of those and will be fondly recalled as long as I live and breathe. Nothing else to say.
