They did what they should have done against a bad team. That is NOT a criticism. That is a VERY important thing to get done. Look at the scores around the country.

They played a solid, if not spectacular, game. Thrilled for AJ Redd.

I HATED all the threes off of no passes or one pass in the second half. That needs to be addressed, but that is a nit to pick for another day.

There were 2 or 3 possessions where Kylan got up into his man and really pressured the ball. That needs to be a more common thing. Make some guys uncomfortable.

Show up in College Park Sunday, shoot the ball better, and just take care of business.

I was curious about what % AS was shooting on FTs for the season (85%) and was quite disappointed, but not surprised, that both Ivisic brothers were below 70% for the season. Quite unusual for a couple of guys that are strong from beyond the arc for their size. Even more surprising is that they avg. between them just around 40 attempts....FOR THE SEASON. Both need significant work on their physicality and finishing skills at the rim through contact.

Oregon was really off their game. Illinois is off but still won by 25. The announcers were off their game too. Underwood is a bit of a psycho for chewing out the senior night walk on for taking a dumb shot during garbage time haha.

Tomi with 2 points, a plus 7 in 24 minutes. He did give us 8 boards.

Z with 8 points, 5 boards, 2 blocks, and at least two shots altered that I caught. A plus 19 on the night In..............7 fewer minutes than his twin.

Z has to be on the floor for this team to reach its full potential, IMO. Alternatively, if Tomi is going to be on the floor, he's gotta be hitting shots because his lack of D and general energy is not helping right now.
I've been saying this for a couple of months. You're right. Tomi doesn't go hard. Z goes really hard. He also is a huge defensive difference and tonight BU stated if we're going to reach our ceiling we need to be better on D. I love Illinois. I love BU. I even really like Tomi. But facts are facts. Tomi needs to play about 15-17 minutes a game and Big Z needs to play 25+. Period. Big Z is a game changer.

Overall nice, low stress win against a team that has been playing better. Good to see Andrej bounce back, was also our leading rebounder. That effort tells me he gives a **** which you want to see.

I do still have some concerns that I think oregons poor play masked:
1. Going back to the second half of UCLA we are in a bit of an extended shooting funk, though we did make some in the first half.
2. Still had a few lackadaisical spells. The start of both halves and then we let them get the lead down to 13. We dropped the hammer after that and put the game away but still…
3. Tomi is really struggling both with his shot and I just don’t think he’s moving well. Looking like he do early in the season coming back from injury when he didn’t have his legs.

I do think this was a step in the right direction, but this effort could also get us in trouble against a better team. I’m actually not sure we played a ton better than we played @UCLA.

All that said, I’m going to chalk alot of it up to the physical and mental fatigue that comes at the end of a long season. We are in the dog days and we aren’t the only team that is looking lethargic. Kansas down 9@ ASU and Texas Tech losing at home to TCU to take two examples from just tonight.

Good news is we have a nice rest until Sunday when we play a sub 130 team to close out the season and if we take care of business we shouldn’t have to play again until Friday. Let’s TCB, get our legs back and reset for the postseason.
Our shooting funk is mostly the twins and Boswell. Everyone else has been pretty respectable from three.

I will always eat crow, Andrej had an incredible night and really showed who he is as a player. Good for him and good for this team. The high ankle sprain probably caused some issues but this team moved the ball a lot better tonight against an inferior team.

Get THAT Andrej consistently in the next few weeks, and Illinois has a chance to make a lot of noise.

He’s our hinge point on this team. They play so much better when he’s at the top of his game.

It's clear (to me at least) that we could go far in the tourney. We have great balance and strong bench. Plenty of size and so many weapons. It would be a nightmare to guide us. How do you decide who guards who? We're only three OT losses away from being a top 5 team. Big Z is better than I expected, and he keeps getting better. Mirkovic keeps improving; I doubt any team has a better pair of starting frosh than us. As I watched the Oregon game I couldn't help thinking maybe we're peaking now. You can tell I have plenty of optimism. Go Illini!
