Everyone saying we need this version of Andre for the rest of the season. This is the same Andre, he has always destroyed Q3 opponents all year long.

Texas Tech 23pts
Alabama 26pts
@OSU 17pts
Nebraska 19&10
Missouri 16pts
@Iowa 17pts
@MSU 22pts
@USC 22pts

That's eight quad 1 games. (yes, just for the sake of it, I am including Missouri -- their 3 spots away!)

Beat me to it, good stuff

He was averaging more points in Q1 games than lower tier opponents until UCLA, Michigan games. Makes me wonder a bit about the high ankle sprain vs MSU and if it’s still been bothering him at all as he’s still playing limited minutes, even last night.

I HATED all the threes off of no passes or one pass in the second half. That needs to be addressed, but that is a nit to pick for another day.
I suspect there was a deliberate effort to pick up the pace, as a response to being stymied in the half-court last game. At least for Andrej

Just watched the video of AJ walking off the course. Literal goosebumps. Thank you, young man, for your service. Delighted that you went out of the AH in fine style.

I only watched the first 10 minutes before going to bed (new born kicking my butt this week)

I can’t help but comment on the 3pt shooting again. I just struggle with it. Sure it’s great when you play small teams and we get second chance points.

That isn’t working against big teams and physical teams.

I’m also baffled at what’s going on with Tomi.

On a positive note, great senior night and dominate win. Super happy for AJ.

We have to get our mojo back, this is a step in the right direction. Gotta get back to that 2 seed line.

Just some notes from the game.

We immediately went down 9-3 shooting 1/5 from three. Then went on a like 30-4 run that was entirely fueled by going to the rim.

In the second half we come out 1/7 from three (and like 3/20 in the half) and let the lead get down to 13. We then assert ourselves on offense going to the basket and pull away for good.

We are reverting to a lot of quick, lazy threes early in the shot clock. We can get that shot whenever we want it. It just screams selfish, lazy, and tired basketball.

I'm not sure what has changed, but it seems to coincide with KBs return. Andrej will always feast against inferior talent, but KB has been the odd man out since he returned. They need to get him assimilated back into the offense. KB, Andrej, and Tomi can stop shooting threes at any time.

With that out of the way, I was in attendance with the wife and had a good time. I felt like we played an overall good game, especially defensively. Crowd was good, Krush did their job, and what an awesome ending for AJ!

Ya have to attack the basket...go inside out and make the defense honest. It really unlocks this offense and gets defenses out of position and even leads to open 3s.

You also get a higher rebound rate on those missed 3s because the defense has to attack close outs.

Most stupid post of the year. You have to bad mouth a guy when he has a good game.

Remember when Groce was fired, many on here wanted Altman as our HC? How's that lookin' now?

I commented last night that he looked a lot quicker and more explosive than he has the last couple games.

Andrej was really aggressive getting to the rim. That was the difference when it got close. They didn’t have an answer for him, partially because they gave so much attention to Keaton.

Again with the revisionist history. Illinois shoots 3's a lot, which leads to the most efficient offense in basketball.

During the run in the last 10 minutes of the half, Illinois was 6-8 from 3 (opened 1-7). After they were up 26 in the second half, they missed 11 3's in a row before Redd made one at the end and the lead shrunk to...26.

It's a part of the offense, lots of open 3's, and lots of offensive rebounds. It works when they're getting rebounds, and they're getting rebounds.

Heck, even in the Michigan game, that was Michigan's second worst defensive game of the season.

The efficiency is not making threes, but getting lots of second chances off the ones we miss.

I have no problem shooting volume threes, but when we stopped just taking the first three that presented itself to us with no offense. We started making them AFTER we started going to the basket and kicking out to shooters in rhythm.

Then in the second half we just started shooting them at the first opportunity.

We were up 20 at half. Then we went 1/8 from three until it was 50-37. Mirk hit a three to then be a scorching 2/9 for the half and killed their momentum. Then we scored at the basket and limited our outside shots which got us to the line.

In the vacuum of this game, we played fine, very good even. With the only three guaranteed games left, if we continue this style of play, it's going to be an earlier than expected exit.

We really need Tomi and KB to get back to being themselves.
