Pretty pleased with what we saw tonight. There are lots of offensive weapons on the team; defense is going to be a concern this year. Turnovers are still happening more than they should.

Mav is going to be a blast to watch this year!

Showed some really good flashes when we got out in transition. Really liked what we got from MM MF TA and DJW. Need big Mike to get back into game shape, but overall a nice opener over a pesky newly acquainted SEMO squad.

Tate's shot is so UGLY. I like how he pushes the ball but dang that young man cannot shoot.

I thought the same thing. I guess it's that old school upperclassmen play first thing again. I thought they stopped that when I played in the 90's. I thought players play players? IJS

It was a little sloppy but first real game of the year. You also have to remember that although this team is old a lot of these players have not played much together in actual games. I think as they gel they could be a really good team.

Groce probably doesn't trust TJL on the defensive end yet. His time will come.

I don't get the Tate hate -- or dislike -- he had 6 assists and a steal and he obviously runs things the way Groce wants or he wouldn't be out there. Yeah, he can't shoot, but he plays D and he's a superb passer. 3 to's but that's gonna happen to a pg with an uptempo team.

Last year we lost our home opener, this year we won. I'll gladly take this win, albeit a little sloppy, but they played better in the second half. I think they just need some time to gel and they will be fine.

Boy, we are going to be deep. Lots of weapons on offense. Besides the obvious, I was really encouraged by DJ's play. I think he's a major contributor by Big 10 play.

Tate still struggles on offense and Jordan looks absolutely overwhelmed. They both likely see less court time as the year goes on.

Not exactly a recent development.

Thought we looked good tonight. SEMO hit quite a few well contested threes, or it probably wouldn't have been that close. Hugely impressed with Mav. He seems like he's really figured it out.

Well, at least we didn't get beat like UConn did by Wagner. Also NC State barely slipped by Ga Southern.

And consider that Black is not playing yet. I think we'll be ok.

I really like the line-up when Tate and Abrams are both on the floor. So much depth this year. Should be a great season and a lot of fun to watch.

The zone was because of the size difference. It was an obvious decision that sparked the run in the first half that they never looked back on. When they have 6'10"+ guys trying to hang with 6'3"- guys it is always going to be a struggle. None of the bigs are named Egwu so don't expect them to cover guards tight regularly.

Don't have any hate for Tate but I was disappointed not to see Tejon except garbage seconds. I think that kid is going to be one that we will all be very proud of. He needs tick though and last 5 min were a good time to be giving him that in my opinion.
We already know what we get with Tate and honestly it isn't good enough.

Crap one game and I sound whiny and we won!!. Ok just wanna see what Tejon can do.. I'll end it on that.

Like I said days ago, Tate is going to play and Groce is going to use Abrams at the 2 a lot. It won't change until Illinois loses when the better Coaches will just not guard Tate and or play zone and cheat off Tate so they can double team any driver and our Center. Same thing they did last season.
