Toppin is a player no doubt. We are deep no doubt. You could tell Mirkoviic got tired. Jake looked not to shoot. Good win.
Def tired & played like a freshman. His shots were all short in the 2nd half & every one of those TOs were about him playing too fast.

That said, had to fill in at the 5 and didn't foul. Excited for what he will look like EOY.

Neither Yahoo sports or espn giving total stats this year on ncaa games. Not listing 3 pointers or percentages. Could someone start posting the complete stats for our games when they are finished. Thank you in advance.
Another place to look is the link Dan puts in the first post of the game thread, "live stats". Its usually a link to statbroadcast.com for our game. A really, really good source for advanced analytics. And the normal box score.

The hotly awaited top 37 list has been delayed.

That was some damn fine play tonight. Wagler's coming along nicely. There is no way he is in front of Stojackovic, either offensively or defensively. DAMN that kid can play. He gave a clinic on how to fight through screens and thew in a little offense, just to show he's not one dimensional. Boswell's fronting JT Toppin was fantastic.

Some things for improvement (a team can always improve):
- The player at the top of the key (pick or player sliding over) needs to be ready to catch/shoot. We had multiple possessions where the dribbler turned around and tossed it back to a wide open player at the top of the key and they weren't ready. By the time they recovered, so had the defense.
- The team got rattled and out of sync for 4-5 offensive possessions near the start of the 2nd half when Toppin started rolling. We were falling into hero ball. Someone needs to calm the team and run the offense.
- In the first half, Boswell drove into the middle of a crowded lane and turned it over multiple times. This was a problem he had early last year and improved. Lets fix it again. Had he driven to either side of the lane instead of into the center with 3 defenders he would have been fine. A PG needs better court awareness.
- The team missed pretty much every deep 3 they took; all the shots were short.

3 at the top of the key is statistically the best one you can get too… in college ball (NBA the statistically best 3 is from the corner since it’s a shorter shot)

If we can get a wide open 3 from straight on several times per game we need to make sure we take advantage

Edit: should clarify when I say “shorter shot” I mean relative to top of the key in NBA, not relative to college… 3 point line is 3 feet further out from the wing in NBA and then is just parallel to the sideline from wing to baseline)

Dude knows he's gonna get paid (and already is)....I know this doesn't stop others, but still.

From the NCAA site: A flagrant 1 foul is two shots and the ball and that means excessive in nature or unnecessary or avoidable, uncalled for or not required by the circumstances of the play.

I suspect this fell under the "not required" clause since Boswell wrapped his arms around the opponent.
If the player doesn’t intentionally flop to the floor does it get called a flagrant? Do the officials not look at that and realize it was just a bad acting job?

I don't think I've ever been more baffled by a call than that flagrant foul that somehow stood up to review.

That was a much needed win on the home court. Stojakovic is a stud and I'm excited to see him play as he gets in better game shape.

I was also excited to see Brad actually double in the post and throw some different looks at guys. I know Toppin scored 35 on 17-25 but they forced him into a bunch of turnovers and I thought Ivisic actually played him well(provides some much needed rim protection).

I get that Brad was limited by injuries here but once they get some guys back you can't play Davis and Humrichous at the same time. I know Brad seems to love Davis but I don't really see a role for him once Petrovic and Tomislav are back(definitely not if Ty also returns). Humrichous provides the same stuff and has better size.

I think it counts as a flagrant as soon as Boswell unnecessarily wraps his arms about him.

1. No Tomi, no Petrovic;

2. A true freshman in his third game, and first game against a ranked opponent, gets 35 mins of tick and contributes mightily;

3. Dre comes off the DL and carries us, even when totally gassed;

4. Bam.

I hadn't seen us play before tonight. My friends, we have got some dudes. Some very serious dudes. It's gonna be fun.

Free Throw Attempts:

Illinois - 23
Texas Tech - 4

That’s a homer job. Gotta call it like I see it but we’ll take it.
I actually disagree vehemently- One team attacked the entire game.. the other shot 3 and deep hook shots. Texas Tech was also undersized at a few positions and consistently reached on drives. It was unbalanced because of the teams, not bad officiating (though the officiating was atrocious). Still weird take after a win like that

It seems like our NIL investment in already paying off….
Was that like a last game thread thing? The kid scored 18 points per game in the ACC last year.

Not like he hasn't played major competition the last two years.

As far as someone needing to calm the offense during that rough start of the second. I’d say Bos did exactly that drawing those fouls but agree it took a bit too long for him to provide that leadership in that situation. Would love to see it after two empty/stagnant possessions.
